Does any body on here keep them to eat . I tried . while cooking it smelled like it did when i cought it .  i have kept sows and piglets . But 100 and up boars stink . Any ideas . Or are they just dog food ?

Them boars are just as good to eat if treated right. If they have been run hard you have to tie them and let them calm down for about eight hours then kill them while they are not all worked up. One thing an old man told me is cut the stick and berries out immediately after killing. Last thing is put the meat in a cooler with ice water and a quart or two of white vinegar. Let it soak for a couple days draining the water off daily and adding more ice. I did these steps on a rank smelling 260lb boar and the meat tasted store bought. Wink it works

Gotta work at it a bit. Most of the stink/game flavor comes from the fat I think. I've trimmed mine down to just meat....nearly no fat....soak in ice/salt water, rinse and repeat. Marinade real well and it ain't bad.

We kill them on the spot but we soak them in ice water and vinegar as Peachcreek said. The bigger the hog the longer we soak them. Just
keep draining the bloody water off and adding Ice. We have soaked them as long as 2 weeks. Also makes them more tender.

just did the same thing caught a big boar and cut him as soon as we killed him ate some of the meat the next day and had no smell to it

I shot one this yr dropped him instantly cut his juevos as soon as I came down and we ate him just like anything else

if i keep a big boar i cook a strip of back strap on a frying pan if its smelles to bad i only use it in sausage .   but if it smelles ok then i know milking the pork chop for a day will draw any wild smell left before cooking.
