Me and Alan ( dognhogs84 ) hit the woods yesterday and got on a group of shoats... The dogs had one caught and we took care of that one... Alan said he could still hear pigs close but never could see them... After getting closer, we found an old well about 15ft or so deep that 2 shoats had feel in....

So Alan pulls his wheeler close to the hole, I wrap a dog lead around me and hook the winch cable to it... He lowers me down at a slow speed, but alittle too fast to check for snakes and spiders...  Undecided

Finally get to the bottom and get the shoats rounded up...

I hobble the back leg on each one and let Alan pull them up... While I'm watching to make sure the hobble doesn't slip off, I see them brush the wall and bump these little critters...

Luckily my cheap dog lead didn't break when he winched me back out of the hole... And I'm sure glad we found the hole in the daytime... Sure would have sucked finding it in the dark running to a bay!!!  Shocked

It would really suck for a dog to fall in there with a rank boar

I was trying not to think about it breaking, much less coming up with a plan....  Grin

There was about a 3 ft section of a log at the bottom, if the lead had broke I probably wouldn't have had to worry about a plan.... Just go ahead and kick some dirt on me...  angel

But the danger is half the fun!!!!!!

Thats scary I can tell ya that.  One time me and Tom were hunting at that time didnt have Garmins but the ole type trackers .  Dogs got on hogs and we get a few well we were missing two dogs lucky we pulled out the tracker and it was saying they was right on top of us but we could see no dogs .  I got to walking round and round in a tight circle and all the sudden my foot went in a hole covered with thick coastal hey grass well we got to digging around and looking it was a ole abandon well and deep .  Could not see the dogs lucky Tom had a flash light and we shined down in the well hole about 35 feet down was our two dogs and lucky they were not hurt .  Tied two Larets ropes togther lowered it down in with the loop on the end took some time but finally got it around a dog and pulled him out about a hour later got the other one out .  Never would have found them if we had not been right on top of them .

Cheesy I had my hip boots pulled up for when the chit gets deep.....

After talkin to a buddy that lives close to there, he said it was most likely a old hand dug well... There were holes dug into the sides all the way up so they had a way to get out once the hole started getting deep...

Well I can see it now,.....when the media hears about this it'll be a reality show for sure. "Piggy rescue with the young whipper snappers".......Hogs gone wild ain't got a chance! I just want a guest appearance now and then Trent. When you got out of that well.....(and yes it is a dug well, seen 'em around here before), did you run out and yell...."Yeyeyeyeyeye Liiiiiiive action"?
