Went out monday morning with a buddy that was in town for just a few hours. I planned on checking a couple of trotlines and maybe getting on a hog real quick and being back in an hour or two. Got one trotline checked and had an 18 pound oppalousa. 100 yards from that line the dogs wind a hog and bail out of the boat. 3 hours and 6 miles later they FINALLY bay this big running toothy barr hog. They swam every slough and lake and the river several times but luckily they bayed him 150 yards from the river. If it had not been for the long range antennas we'd have never found them. I had two dogs baying this hog and my catch dog, a puppy and my other bay dog in the boat. When we pulled up to the bank the other two ran in and started baying. I knew it had to be a bad one because they'll usually all catch when they're together. I ran in close enough to see he was big and toothy and turned the catchdog loose. It was a big barr so we stabbed him. As soon as we stabbed him my 8 year old dog Chockie hit the ground like a wet rag. He just had one quarter size hole in his neck but he had bleed out. He was just barely breathing and his gums were white. I carried him down to the water and got him cooled off and he got on his feet but couldn't pick his head up. My ParkerxPlott dog got cut from his belly to his tail through his groin and it was very bad. We got the hog gutted and in the boat and dogs loaded up in just a few minutes and I hauled butt for the boat ramp. We were almost 2 hours from the vet but I think I made it in an hour. I was hoping they would be doing better by the time we got there but they weren't. Had to leave Chockie 3 days while they sewed on him and kept him hooked up to fluids. Got them both on antibiotics. This was one of those bad runners that finally met his match. He's in the cooler and going into tamales and boudin ASAP! Got his head boiled out and sitting on my desk. The dogs should be healed up in a couple weeks. Dogs loaded up and truckin'! 18 pound op. Bayed Solid! Caught Hog!! Toothy Sumitch! Headed out! The haul! End of the road bub!

Now why u gotta ruin a good hunting story and pics by having to pull his toothies way out to make them look bigger than they really are?? Good hog though.
