Read a recent story on Army Master Sgt. C.J. Grisham being arrested while openly carrying a firearm while hiking with his son.  Not completely familiar with TX's stance on this.  Anybody have any input?

Depends on where your at. Camping as a kid at Tyler state park...we had a shotgun...just for protection. They told us....legally we couldn't have it in the park.

This happened in Temple where I live.  Lets just say that some lawyer is going to have a field day with this one.  Uninformed, uneducated cops will end up costing the city a lot of money all said and done.  They simply picked the wrong guy to mess with.

Just wanted to check myself on the Tyler State Park deal.

Not sure on all state parks...but at least at Tyler.... You cannot DISPLAY or discharge any firearm. Doesn't say you can't carry one or have one in the camp site.

Is it a state park or national park?

I didn't see where it said he was hiking?

A couple years ago I had an office threaten to pull his gun on me and all kinds of stuff. It was a small town local cop. As soon as I replyed yes to having a weapon it set him off. After a talk with the sheriff... a groomsmen in my parents wedding... he was suspended and had to attend some kind of classes.

From the video it looks like he was walking down a public road. The rifle was legal to be visable but if he had a CC and the handgun was visable they can nail him to the wall. No doubt the officers handled it poorly. After seeing the video he was not being an angel himself IMO... pretty mouthy. To his credit, the officers cleary did not know the law and it shows. I know being a cop is a tough job but that level of ignorance should not be allowed to wear a badge.

Actually, the officer that cuffed him was misguided but pretty professional about it. "He says clearly that I want to secure you until I find out ......" Thats understandable. Its the other officer that is the idiot. He fuels an already touchy situation by running his mouth.

the cop threatens the little boy , say he well not be released from the back seat until answers all questions. the boy scott is videoing and crying.  his dad giving instructions to him while being detanded. this is not a good thing...miners have to have a parent or lawyer present during any questions.

If i was with my rights, i would b mouthy too. Im not just gonna lay down n take it from an dumba$$ who is suppose to uphold the law when he clearly didnt know the law. Some folks may choose to b the quiet sheep, but I wont b the quiet sheep led to slaughter, i'll scream my head off for all to hear. How can a person uphold the law, when they dont abide by or even know the law. I hope that soldier cleans temple out n then take everything from that discracefully idiot of a cop.

I could not watch all of the video. But I bet the cops do not get to meet a President.
