well we let out at the ranch about 10 pm , it was me marvin , dow , brandon and two more , we had a group , colton was sleepy so he stayed in the truck , I brought 3 bay dogs and a CD , dow brought princess a big red bone , and marvin brought 2 bay dogs and a CD , brandon had a vested bmc running CD , we were making a big circle , my dogs had trashed on 2 skunks and were stinking , we got to a big draw and the dog went off about 300 yds out , they busted and were on a race , by the time the boar stopped it was 3.65 miles , we were several pastures away and were going threw gates and flying down roads to get there on the atvs , brandons dog had fell out of the race on the garmin and I was spooked being what he is , we got to a fence so the rest was on foot in the thickest jungle you can think of , they were in a creek with a step bank , dow cut jorge loose and he bailed off and caught with me right on his heals , jorge put this hog in check , but the rest of me and marvins so called loose baying dogs got trashed , I think we had to many dogs this time and not enought last time , heck I dont know , not to go into details , I fixed them up the best I could , called the vet and meeting him first thing in the morn with 4 dogs , we killed the boar and went to saving dogs , brandon took off solo to look for his dog that dropped off .75 miles back , he was fine , looked like my shock collar took a few good blows , it was brand new , I think his dog maybe over heated alittle also ,at 14 months old his dog was a trooper
I dont think this strategy is going to be good on the pocket book , one bad hog , didnt take any dog picks
colton and jorge on the way home

Bad part about putting loose and rough dogs together. The loose ones try to get in but don't have the experience. We regularly have 6 or more on the ground with my RCD. He can get it done but once he hits the rest pile on. I have seen some good hogs stretched out as a result.
Hope all your dogs come thru no worse for ware.

It was a good and bad night for sure. After the fact it would have been better to come up empty handed, especially since We were more or less on the way back to the trucks when the dogs struck out on the hog. Is your shock collar alright Bob? I didn't even look at it when I took it off. I seen the poke in Tuffs vest last night, but I just took him from the truck to his kennel when I got home still with his cut collar and garmin still on. Went to feed him when I woke up this afternoon, and seen his cut collar took a shot too. So he tried that hog at some point. When he was not movin on the Garmin I feared the worst, but now feel bad he came out without a scratch. I just wish I knew why he dropped out of the race. Yours and Marvin's dogs have really impressed me the last two hunts, y'all got some good ones for sure.
To Shotgun, Bob and I both agree its best to hunt either all rough or all loose dogs. Last night was the first time I ever brought my rough dog along with his dogs. But last night, all of us believe the dogs didn't get cut until they got it stopped in the creek, well after the rough dog dropped out. They bayed it in a very narrow and steep hole on the creek, and I think the dogs just didn't have any room to get out of the way. And with some of the shots the dogs took, we don't think they would have made it as fast as they did from where my dog dropped out to where the stopped it almost a mile away.

it is best... all loose or all catch...but one loose dog with catchy dogs helps to see where they are caught...well that was before the garmin days...

Brandon , I just laid all the gear on the back of the truck and went to bed , when I got up I started gathering up my stuff , I noticed then that the bottom of the shock collar was cut in half and some good scratches , it was brand new so for sure your dog seen the hog , I think Brandon that the hog stopped to fight were your dog quit and the war was on , I think the dogs took a beating at that point , your dog got blasted bad enought to quit or overheated , I don't know he's only 14 months , then they rolled out and finished in the creek , IMO. Brandon your dog is gonna be a good one , he's sure got the looks to boot , Brandon the collar is fine , it still works , and now it blends in with the rest of them , thank you
