I've hunted both and I like curs a whole lot better. I go to the woods to catch hogs not run them all day. Just my opinion

Whatever puts pork on the ground consistently is the best I think. And the best ones don't hav a price. But different hunting styles and different people could mean that one persons cull traits are wat another person wants

as far as currs i dont think its any one breed better than the other i know people that hunt with a line of catahoulas thats good and most of the guys around here hunt with just mixed up cur dogs thats been bred back and forth over the years what most would call a heinz 57 but are super dogs. some of the parker dogs are good also. as far as terriers if i was gonna look for one i would look for some of the old dixieland jags i liked them the most out of the ones i been around. ive hunted with hounds a few times but not enough to tell what i like the most about them in each breed. and bulldogs i never owned one with papers but i like rednoses and for them to be about 40-50lbs

Hahah not trying to start anything but I enjoy a terriers prey drive. Now yes trash breaking is a little tougher but it is possible. You just haven't been around terriers that are worth the feed. Because believe me there are some out there that can easily keep up with a cur and work just as hard if not more so.

Seems like more of the better dogs in this area are cur or heavy cur cross since they have been the more consistent breed through the years for working cattle now they transitioning over to hogs and working them the way they did cattle 20 years ago when there were still cattleman and cowboys not cooperate brats with ranchettes!!!

They ain't for everyone but them little terriers are fun to watch, when they would take a track they would start almost havin a breakdown lol, all kinds of crazy whines/noises like it was driving them crazy to find what they were hunting......if that makes any sense, hahaha. They have a crazy prey drive, that is for sure!

a good jagd is as good as anything out there. they can and will stop a hog even by there self. I loved them sometimes and had to unload my gun sometimes to keep from throwing 450.00 down the drain. If i had someone to hunt with that ran them i would hunt two jagds and two bulldogs. people dont like their traditional dogs being showed up by a twenty pound terrier much. So in order to have hunting buddy's I got out of em. but in a few years i'm going back to them.

I have 5 different dogs that I would say were all the best but for different types of hunting. When they're all together, they're unstoppable.
My oldest and most ferocious and experienced dog is actually my rat terrior Woody. I got him years ago just because I wanted a good squirrel dog and an old man I know said he should make a good ond. He squirrel hunts like a champ but if a hog crosses his path... shame on him. I used to catch some bad hogs with just him that other dogs had just passed up because he loves crawling in tight places and checking everything out. I will still bring him at night some times but I don't usually bring him during the day because of squirrels.
My second oldest dog Chockie was my first planned hog dog. He was out of some good dogs but he,was never

My second oldest dog Chockie was my first planned hog dog. He was out of some good dogs but he was never really a motivated or long range dog when he was younger. It was perfect for the way I hunted at the time.
I eventually got more land to hunt and started getting introduced to longer ranging dogs. That's when I fell in love with Parkers and Plott hounds.

It's not near as much about the "line" of dogs as it is the standards of the man breeding and culling the dogs...

if your buying a pup its all about the line .... 99% of hunters do not have the time money or resources to create a dominate line .... you gotta build instinct ..... instinct drives the nose and heart ......

Best advice ever given on this board. You can take a particular bloodline of dogs (I don't care what breed) as long as we are talking about performance dogs, and you can take two guys and they can start their program with puppies from the same breeder. Example, 2 guys go to a breeder and buy 10 puppies each. The puppies are bred the exact same way, littermates, etc. Both these guys raise up the puppies and hunt them, etc. If these 2 fellows have different expectations about what a good dog is, then you can come back 20 years later and get puppies from these same two guys and they will be like 2 different bloodlines of dogs, even though they are bred the same. If one guy makes excuses or has "my dog syndrome", and he don't have the testicular fortitude to cull, then his dogs will be inferior to the man who aint afraid to pull a trigger. Its as simple as that.

All you got to do is have some common sense some home grown dog smarts and high standards and dont waiver. You got to know what you are looking at and know how to judge a dog . Then you got to keep the good ones and get rid of the rest . People worry to much about lines of dogs and dont even know the dogs themselves . Hunt first and worry about breeding later on in life when you know what you are doing .
