Let me begin by saying Thank You to Tyler Family for being an inspiration to us all . Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you. We sincerely hope the funds raised from this event will make a positive impact for you.
-
Thank you to Monty Bennett for planning and scheduling the event. You provided an opportunity for hog hunters to help a family in need while doing something they love. A true Win/Win opportunity.
-
We feel like this weekend was a true blessing. We were able to assemble a team of capable and likeminded individuals for this hunt. The Team included Hoggdoggerpc, Cowboy Colten, Weller 44, Cujo72, Chris Witt, Shane Ferris, Kaleb Keys, and myself. Dog Team Members were Leroy, Lola, Oz, Sister, Petee, Tuff, Tiger, Cub, Freak, Nikki, Bentley, Spanky, and Roxy. Sorry guys. I know I left a few out.
-
Cast 1 - Moran Tx - 6:15 PM Saturday, 4.27.13 - Temperature - at least 80 degrees -  NE wind about 7 mph
We are huntin a 640 acre place that has had some recent dozer work done on it. Very dry conditions. We decide to kick out Petee, Leroy, Sister, Jack, Joe, Spanky, and I believe one more yellow dog. We cast them SW to NE. About 15 minutes into the cast, Petee strikes. The race is on. Literally dogs on hogs in every direction. Another few minutes go by and we have a solid bay about 800 yards to the NE. All our leggers jump on the Rhino while Shane and hoggdoggerpc jump on the Ranger and head to them. Evidently hoggdoggerpc is a little better than I am with the Garmin. While I am taking every wrong turn possible, he and Shane are trying to peel rough dogs off this 150 lb sow. By the time boy scout me gets there to leg her, she has taken too much damage. She expired before we could get her out. We regroup and cast out again working again from SW to NE. Joe and a yellow dog jump up a small runner and get smoked. Spanky, Nikki, Shane and I kept pushing hard. Spanky starts another small runner. After a couple of stop and go's we find out the hog is faster than we are. We grind on until 10PM.  Nothing else on the place. We load up the crew and put our red behinds in the pick up and head to the Newell Ranch in Albany. Pretty quiet ride. Place has been a real honey hole for us. We realize we put too many rough dogs on the ground and didn't manage our leggers right.
-
Cast 2 - Albany Tx - 11:30 PM Saturday, 4.27.13 Temperature - 60 degrees - No wind to speak of.
We pull into the Newell determined to get on the board. We put Weller 44's Tuff and Tiger on the ground and road for a while. We have Leroy and Petee in the Ranger for the next shift. About 20 minutes in, Tuff and Tiger take a hard right and get on a group out in a wheat field. We drop Leroy and Petee to them.  Petal to the metal across the wheat field. Silence. WTF? A second later...BAM - 140 lb sow caught by all 4 dogs. Trey gets her legged and tied. We look up and hoggdoggerpc says "Leroy's bayed at 940". We jam the ATV's as far that way as we can. Cowboy Colten, Trey, and I grab bulldogs and away we go. Get CLOSE ENOUGH and cut em in. 190 lb sow caught in a tank. Cowboy Colten goes swimming. I'm tying dogs as fast as he can chunk em to me. We get her legged & tied. Cujo72, Chris, Kaleb, and Shane get her out. 2 team members head back to get the ATV's. While all this is going on, Tuff, Petee, and Leroy decide they aint through yet. Hoggdoggerpc and crew show up with ATV's saying "bayed boys" let's roll. We do. We get about 200 out and hear squealing. Caught hog right? Wrong! Dogs get slung off before we can get to them. They stayed with the hog and got it shut down again about .6 away. We get there and I go to leg the 160lb sow and just fall over on it. Old fella is wearing out trying to keep up! Next hoggdoggerpc says the words I didn't want to hear. Leroy's bayed. I squeamishly asked "how far?" I don't remember what he said but I almost cried. Anyways, we head to him. All 3 leggers are hustlin but we are gassed. Leroy held steady and we got another 150lb sow legged. Chris, Kaleb, and Shane executed a couple of the most demanding drag out jobs I have seen. We decide to let our leggers recover and start gathering hogs. Feeling better after cast 2. We got a little weight in the trailer. We know we still have alot of work to do.
-
Cast 3 - Albany Tx - 2:30 AM Sunday, 4.28.13 Temperature - 50 degrees - Wind picked up - direction escapes me.
We get to another part of the ranch and decide to put Tiger, Cub, Freak, Bentley, and I think another dog as well. All loose crew. We begin roadin and tank hoppin. Hunted for about 45 minutes without a bark or even a track started. Trey's little Cub gyp is BUSY! Studying the Garmins. Startin to get tired. Bam. All dogs start rollin. Bentley and Cub go catch em a shoat. Freak and Tiger both go about .5 and bay up. We get there and ofcourse we have a mic mickerson 25lb red boar caught. We throw him on the box and look down at the Garmin. Freak and Tiger are rollin. Leggers head to them. .8 was the farthest I remember them gettin. Long story short, we got outran. Fatigue is setting in.  It's about 5:45 AM by the time we get everybody gathered up. Alot of activity on the cast but not much accomplished. Not feeling good about our chances at this point.
-
Cast 4 - Albany Tx - 6:30 AM Sunday, 4.28.13 Temperature - 50 degrees - No wind to speak of.
Final push. We have 1.5 hours left to hunt. We drive to another part of the Newell and spot what we think is a group of hogs. We go into Elmer Fudd stalk mode. Rough dogs in hand and all. We get to the fence and realize our hogs are turkey. Ha! We laugh it off because we are too tired to get frustrated or embarrased at this point. We decided it looked pretty piggy there anyway and began a road, stop, cast approach. We had Freak, Leroy, Bentley, Tiger, Cub, and Cowboy Colten's catahoula dog on the ground. Dogs were hunting good. Nothing happening. Looked at the time. 7:08 AM. Dammit. What happened next is going to sound concocted but I assure you it happened. Next thing I know I hear Weller 44 say " did you see that big hog cross the road? " We begin driving to where he crossed thinking we would drop a dog on it. Bentley beat us to him. Bentley bayed! Hear another dog bayed to the east. Hoggdoggerpc says " Leroy bayed".  Cujo chimes in, Freak's on one about 700 to the SE. Weller says "Tiger's with Freak". Cowboy Colten and Weller head to Bentley. I head to Leroy.  Weller and Colten leg and tie a 200lb boar. Our best hog of the hunt that was a dog whipper. I get to Leroy with Roxy and we catch and tie a 150 lb sow. Leroy immediately rolls to Freak and Tiger. Hoggdoggerpc and Cujo72 roll up. We load up and head to the third bay. By now, every dog on the ground has made it to them. Beautiful bay. I'm thinkin this must be a beast. We drive as close as we can. I jump out with Roxy while hoggdoggerpc and Cujo72 come with Oz. We get about 185 out and cut em. Headin into the bay we run into Colten, Weller, and the rest of the crew. We get to em and this 180 lb has bulldogs hangin off of it everywhere. Chris grabs 2 bulldogs and we get the hog tended to. All 8 hunters are standing around this bay out of breath and out of gas. I'm tellin ya it could not have been scripted any better.

I truly believe that when good people come together for good causes, good things happen. I am very proud to have been a member of this team on this hunt. This experience will make me smile for the rest of my life. I hope you all enjoy reading this summary.

Man Leon you are a pro at this. I wish I had you to type out all of my hunts for me like this lol...I sure had a lot of fun meeting and hunting with all of you guys this weekend and really appreciate all of the hard work put in from each of you. I wish I could have helpers like that on every hunt! You are all welcome to come hunt anytime you want. I wish we would have gotten some pics of the hogs and some action shots but that was the last thing on any of our minds i know.

Thanks again to Monty Bennet, all of the other hunters and anyone else that had a hand in helping raise money for Bryson and his family! We will continue to keep them in our prayers!
