Ive about gave up on the whole Internet hog dog thing I've tried 7 dogs and not one have been what I was told..if your going to sell a dog..sell the dog, but don't lie. Damn, especially when you give a trial? If you know I'm not going to like the dog why even let me try it? Tried a "finished" dog today and he didn't even go to the bay. Ive told myself that everyone hunts different and maybe it's just because the dogs weren't use to me. But nope, ive come to conclusion that some people would rather climb up a tree and lie rather than stat on the ground and tell the truth, when the truth sounds better. If you don't agree with what I have to say, don't reply.. because I've wasted enough of my time with these finished dogs on here.

I always ask the person I get a dog from will they show the dog hunt.. If they said no or DON'T HAVE SPOT to show the dog then you know your about to get screwed. If they say yes then go watch it that way if u don't like the dog then no one is harmed or screwed.

Couldnt agree more. Had a similar incident. Ask to c dog hunt behind its owner n got told, i dont hav a place. If u dont hav a place to hunt, how do u hav a very well started, aka: "finshed" dog? Thats the point to walk away from the table.

I usually ask for a trial..might have to use that method, I guess someone that will take you hunting without a problem might actually be telling the truth. Yea and I guess so, no hog hunter will sell a "hog dog" I've tried to focus on people that are selling out but those don't seem to be working either..hell the best dog I've tried was solid bone when I picked her up, I may just hit that sorry daddy didn't marry mommy after he gives me my money back and keep the dog too.

 I have a dog that I have thought about selling for a while. She is 6 years old. Found alot of hogs for me. Hunts 300-400 yards. I cast her in areas I think hogs are most of the time. Can be road hunted too. Silent. Plott x BMC. Will help catch with bulldog. Will catch ear or just behind the front leg everytime. Able to shoot over her too. Will follow a dog on a deer track but only for 100 yards or so then she will peel off and go hunting. Easy keeper. She was my best dog for a while. Some days she will impress the hell out of you other days she will be your avg dog. That is how I would post an ad for her.
  I paid 300 bucks for her a little over four years ago. A good dog can still be bought. You have to hunt the dog with the owner and listen with your eyes not your ears.

Here's my take on that...I've been messing with hog dogs for 20+ years.  I've met a WHOLE lot of folks along the way and those I haven't met, chances are if they've been in the game for any amount of time and raising a line of good dogs I've probably at least heard there name.  Having said that, I've not once ever known anyone who posted a "selling out" ad.

I just sold a 5 yr cat.   1350 bucks   everything i said she was , i sold her to my best friend lol , pretty good deal , I still get to hunt with her on every  hunt , he feeds her and takes care of her , but like said if you read on her you would think finshed dogs were everywere , but thats not the case , it takes to much time and to many hogs to make a dog , there not just gave away , and every one dont have one , there passed threw freinds in most cases, there are a few good dogs sold on here but do your research , look at there post , see how many hogs they catch , is all there post on the dog trade , dead giveaway , I have dogs I like , they will find a hog , not finshed by what you read on here but would take the bank for , there are some good dogs sold here but ther far and few between , everyone wants a finshed dog but dont have any money or dont wanna pay , 5000 wouldnt by any of mine and there not finshed

So your saying if you have a dog that hunts but not to your standards it's a cull? I've had dogs in the past that won't hunt but would hunt off the hood and since I don't hunt like that very often I sold him. I've heard from the man and he says that he made a half way decent dog.

I will sell a dog that ticks me off just because I don't like them. But I will sell them to someone I know. Kind of like this girl I knew once. She would do what I asked but I did not like her. So I asked a guy I knew that need a girl if he wanted to go out with her But I am just honest and that is how I am. A dog is finished to me when I am finished feeding it. I will tell you the good and bad. But my bad may be just what you want and your bad may be what I want. Now I do a guy that will sell you a real good dog but it ain't cheap and you can hunt the dog. I can't afford him but I hear once the dog is bought it is bought. But the man has some real good dogs. So you can buy some good dogs. But for my money I will go with a puppy and take my chances.

A couple pups I got now may go up for sale if they keep ticking me off

I sold two good started ybmc males a few months back cuz I thought they weren't learning fast enough. Nearly gave them away. Problem was I didn't have good places to hunt with fresh enough signs. The man that has em now said that was just what he needed to have a solid pack. Like was said. Check there last posts and ask questions. Get proof if possible.

There was a post in the dog trade today wanting a good dog but they said they would not pay over $300. There's alot of people who will sell a junky dog for $2000 but I don't know anybody who will sell a good dog for $300.

I'm talking to that guy right now got a young dog doing real good just not what i want necessarily right now. I wouldn't take the the cash only but will try to work something out if he will hunt him. May take some trading to get it done but there are good people out there selling dogs that just don't fit them

half a$$ dont make a finished dog if anything a help dog ...lol  the hard working dogs cost, if its not a mt curr or jagds then dont spent your time or money on a half a$$ dog unless proven.   lolol  this is how i tell..just a little 2cents.... take a garmin us it an watch the dog your buying, watch for your self .. this tells u why the man is selling the dog it my be the slowest or loops while on track or my be just to slow for his pack.. the garmin tells a lot about a dog in a race..   {use some cents say pig or hog  if the dog dont jump or go crazy it not finished} lol  jk somwhat

The internet has driven up the prices and the amount of culls being passed on as finished dogs. Now don't get me wrong you can still find some good dogs on the net you just have to do lots of homework before you purchase anything. The day where you can take someones word and it's good as gold is far and few between. I chuckle when people write that they are selling a good dog for 500 without a trial and 800 with a trial. Most people pass off too many dogs that will never make anyones pack. Have the guts to part the dog from hunting at all. Cull it!!!! I have been given lots of dogs or purchased lots that never made the team and if they didn't I did what I had to do. Let's not forget what most of are in this for, produce better hog dogs. If they dont make the cut well don't pawn them off to someone else looking to get your money back on these dogs. Better yet don't breed these dogs to cash in on the new trend either.!!!
