Its a 1911 so you can basically build off the platform if you want to. If i were you though id check the slide frame fit both at the rear and the muzzle before i bought it. You can always tighten the slide frame fit with a vice, files and patience (or just cheat and use di-electric grease). If its got a good slide frame fit why not. I looked at one years ago for a woods gun and for 200 bucks you can just spend the other three or four some decent wilson combat stuff to make it a good pistol.

just my 2 cents but i say go with a revolver for hog hunting. 357 mag or bigger. myself i carried a 357 for about 12 years then been carrying a 44 mag for the last 25 years.

I own a 357 mag revolver...and double action is nice...
but I hunt with a 22 mag semi auto...hollow point won't penatrate the skull of a big boar so I use FMJ...If I could do it over again it will still be the 22 mag but in double action revolver....

Ruben, what make and model is your 22 mag auto ? Someone mentioned RRA 1911. I have a citadel 3 1/2 " 1911 that I like real well. And my full size Springfield. Also carry my old .44 single action some.  |

Btyant...my 22 mag semi auto is made by AMT and it is an AUTOMAG 2...AMT is out of Irwindale, CA...made in the USA, they are/were a company that liked making unsual type pistols...In the case of the 22 mag it was because at that time no one made the 22 mag in semi auto...I don't know if they are still in business...

I have a Hi-point 9MM and I'm happy with it, it's surprisingly accurate and functions perfectly.....but they aren't expensive, thus the bad ones folks get. One pistol that I don't believe has been mentioned is a Makarov 9X18. It's a smaller handgun that is from all I read, as tough as whet leather and as dependable as paying taxes. I've read a good bit about them and hardly anyone has a bad comment about them. Depending on who made it they range in price from $200-$400. I'm thinking seriously about trying one as a CC weapon. Ammo isn't hard to get from what I see......just another choice you might want to check on. Good luck.

I see these a bunch at the gun show. Theres been a dealer thats had cases of them for years. Every time i go they sell them anywhere from 75 to 150. never messed with one though. |

Underdog I realy like that Springfield full size! I've shot one of them about two years ago an was very accurate and not nearly as loud as that .40 I had. The buddy of mine that owned the gun stressed that I should by one if I ever bought another hand gun because of the dependability that Springfield has.
There's so many choices and prices out there. But if my life is on the line I want something that I have no doubt will work. Plus if I have a dog to cull or someone needs to borrow it to cull their dog, I want it to be there when I need it

I know the old timers are die hard about the .357 and I wish I had one but they also tell me that the ammo is high dollar for em now. Whatever I end up getting ill be taking it to a gun smith for him to look over and get a professional opinion on any mods I need to do to the slide, trigger, ect. And put about 50 rounds through it before I trust it in the woods |
