I seen some hating so I thought I would chime in. Twice in one week I got into some chiggers. The bad part is that you don't know where you got into them. I don't want to put shoes on now. The first time I did not wantpants or shoes. I sprayed myself down but still got some in my shoes. I also stood on an ant hill. But I stipped fast and only got getten twice by the fire ants. Them chiggers are just sneaky mean little turds.

I'm with you dub,....I HATE chiggers but they LOVE me.......I'll swear that if I enter the woods in summer,.....I can see the leaves giggling as they gang up and move my way. I don't know of much that will keep them off of you,....my Grand Dad used to rub kerosene, or 'coal oil' as the old timers called it, on his ankles and legs if we were going to pick blackberries, he swore that it kept them off of him. Only thing I know to do is take a shower soon as you can after being in the woods or anywhere brushy this time of year. Works for me,......chaps my rear to hear folks not from the South ask......chiggers.....what are chiggers? I try to introduce them to the little %$&*%$^s.

I have a friend in coldspring that has a place on his property he will not walk through because he swears it is infested, i walked through there in shorts just to see if i could get bit. Well no chiggers... Idonno maybe the lil suckers dont like the way i smell?

Listerine in a spray bottle works very well to keep them off of you.

Firemedic just tell them they are furry little critters and send them searching in the brush and dewberries. When they don't find none tell them they can try again the next day Grin

Man they sure seem to like hiding in the dewberries. I don't go in if I see dewberries but sometimes I see them too late. The last time when I realized I was in the dewberries I just started eating them because I reckoned I was already in the chiggers and there were some fat juicy ones. At least I can wear shoes without wanting to throw the shoes.

Yep dub,....they do like those places. All I have to do is enter the woods and I'm into 'em. Waaaaaay back when I was much younger, and lot dumber, I went coon hunting one night in the summertime with some folks trying out a dog. Things got slow so we sat down to wait on the dogs,....I think that I actually stretched out on the ground if I remember right,......came back home and went to bed. Next day I had 126 chigger bites on me.....misery was my companion for several days.....I think I used up a bottle of clear nail polish dobbing it on the bites......but I learned my lesson and I learned it well.

Man! I hate chiggers, but they LOVE me. I've had em eat my legs up so bad i had pitting edema from knees down. Now, i hang my outside clothes in the basement by the wheeler, spray them good with 10% permethrin(1 oz in a gallon) and let them sit overnite, then, anyskin showing, get deep woods OFF or something like that, and always long pants and long sleeve shirts.  I'll probably go into kidney failure one daynfrom pesticide poisoning, but i'll take my chances with dialysis before i give gruff to a single chigger.

Chiggers absolutely love me but i have found there are two rules

1. Being a girl, never pee in tall grass.

2 i put destin all around my ankles and mid section before going out I'm the woods and shower when i get home. It keeps most of them at bay.

well...we didn't have a plan...we were just being spontaneous and rolled around in the johnson grass for a while after a swim in the lavaca river...we must of had at least 200 chigger bites each and we got a fever from all those bites...

I use off on my pant legs/boots and take a good shower asap when I get home after walking or working in the tall grass...

Flea Collars!!!! People look at you like your crazy in town but I wear a flea collar around each boot all summer long. You can get water proof one that last for months. (about $6 each) They will keep them off of legs but if you get in waist high ones then it can be rough! lol
