I recently bought a tracking system to use as a back up when my garmin stops working randomly... I have never owned one of these systems and need a problem solved. The problem is when i am close to the collar (50') the unit beeps while i am facing 180 deg from the collar and when i face the collar the beeping stops and the led lights act right like the signal is getting stronger as i point the unit towards the collar.  While i am facing 180 deg from the collar the led lights do not pulse but it beeps. Is there something that i am missing here? It is like the antenna is reading backwards or something but the light bar shows it is reading right. If any of that makes any sense. I tried this system at 4.5 miles and it worked fine. I have turned the gain way down while messing with it at close range. Any help besides for me to buy a quick track? Smiley

it should have an antenuator switch.turning it off cuts the range in half tobe better at pinpointing the collar.  on the led model u should be able to follow the lights an b just fine.  kinda hard to not get some kind of beep when u are that close.    WHEN IN DOUBT BUY A GARMIN 220 OR 32O!!! Evil

"I recently bought a tracking system to use as a back up when my garmin stops working randomly..."

You just need to get a Garmin, and get rid of that antique thing... Sorry couldn't resist!!!

On a serious note I have been looking at getting one of these as a back up as well, and also kind of a security system. Due to most people not knowing how to shut them off!!!

A lot of the telemetry systems have interference when you are at close distances such as 50' (including Quick Track).  Things like power lines can also interfere.  I have to turn off some collars when using my Quick Track because different collars interfer with the receiver.  I would not worry about the interference at 50'.  I assume that you dont need to track the dog at 50'.

Please elaborate on how a Quick Track will get your dogs killed? I guess I've been lucky all these years? Shocked

Gonna give wildlife materials a call today... I flipped the switch in front to cut the signal down before doing the 50' test, i had left that step out of my original post. Mike came by last night and was able to pin point and walk right to my collar with his quick track without any 180 deg problems. I know i shouldnt really need this system for close range but just wanted to make sure it was working right.

when i was still using my radio collars i always had this problem. i would turn off every collar that i had close to cut out that trouble. Then i just tracked in one spot and get a signal then move up a ways and track again to make sure i was going the right direction. I dont use mine anymore at all it is really aggrevating compared to garmin. maybe this helped.

I'm glad I'll know who to ask when my radio unit gives me problems, I'm saving to buy one.

As far as radio collars getting dogs killed goes, a Garmin is a fun little plaything, but it is a cracker jack toy when dogs have any range to em. Ideally I'd run both types on every dog.

If I was forced to choose between my quicktrack and my 320 the garmin would be gone. Garmins cant keep up with a real hog dog.

The junk you feed is the problem bryant. We had to wait until they quit a deer to go get my blue eyed darlin from four miles away. If we could of just headed to him instead of chasing bambie around i might not be feeling like i need a telemetry now. Wink

I have a wildlife and I don't like it much either...have to turn off the other collars to get better direction...I also had a used quick track and it was better but still ran into a few problems with it...but I owned an mn-10 and it was the best and most dependable about direction...at real close range to pin point a dog that was not moving... like a dog that was under water or laid up in briars...just disconnect the antenna and walk right up to the dog...I tried that with the wildlife and no difference...I will keep it for now and eventually will replace with an mn...

Why disconnect the antenna reuben? I was doing some searching last night on the web and found a post by someone else saying for real close range tracking to disconnect the antenna... Seems like the direction would not read right.

Yeah the deal i read last night said the wildlife 48 was built for real long range and with the gain down it would still get swamped at close range with the antenna on, i have not had a chance to try it. But i will tonight
