got a female dog that comes in heat seems like every other month. not really but she never misses a heat. thinking of getting her fixed. she is about a five year old dog that has plenty of hunt. whats yalls experience of getting dogs fixed and it effects their hunt. really the only dogs i have seen fixed i guess were house dogs and they seemed to be fat and lazy-prob over fed, HALF BREED whats your opinion , you used to own her.

I fixed my gyp... Im glad and hate it at the same time. Just remember that if you cut her your not ever getting any pups. I regret that now she's by far my best dog and one of the best dogs I've been around. She's 3-4 now not exactly sure but man I don't like the one show rodeo. I would pay some good $$ to get some pups out of her. Now hunting wise I love it! Don't worry about her cycles and would hunt her every other day if I could.

I had one of my male dogs cut and he is 5 yr old and is one mean SOB, even before having him fixed. Now my only regret is I did not keep one of his puppies. This decision is a difficult one to make, Dam if you do and Dam if you don't. If you have some puppies from her then there is no regret. Just my opinion and good luck with your decision you'll make the right choice.

Only reason to get a dog 'fixed' is if there's something wrong with them Just kidding man,.....I have 2 females that are spade and have been for a couple of years now. If it has changed anything about them it's that they may actually hunt harder and stay after it longer now. They're both about 7 years old now and I wish I had done it years before I did. Unlike a lot of folks on here, I don't want to get pups out of a dog just because it's a good dog......that's where a lot of these culls come from. It's too much trouble and torment raising a litter of pups for me.....I want to hunt my dogs and I can't if they're in heat or pregnant. I've had really good luck getting a started dog myself......that's how I got both of these females. Of course I'd like to have had a pup from either of these females,.....but it's too much trouble. So that's my take on spaying females......works for me.
