Yes but you better do your homework and hunt with the dog more than once before you drop that kinda coin.

many great dogs are usually not for sale...but some can be had for almost nothing to quite a bit of money...I would pay 7 or 8 hundred for a great dog but that is me...fifteen hundred if the dog has the right breeding behind it...
more than likely I would rather buy 4 or 5 pups for 1000 dollars out of the right line of dogs and cull down to 1 or 2 good dogs from these pups...
there are a few breeders out there that are not in it for the money and have a yard full of great dogs and they also know that most pups from any of their line dogs that he breeds in his back yard will grow up and be of the same caliber...for these few guys good to great dogs are common...no...i don't know anyone like that right now but I have known a few...

Buy a dog that suits your hunting style, not a dog that suits your wallet and you'll be happy with it.

To me a dogs value is dependent upon the 2 people making that deal. Myself I could not ever see paying 2 grand for any dog. That is nearly a months pay and beyond what I could ever pay. To the next guy tho he could make that in a week and not see any problem in paying it.
On the other side of the coin the man selling the dog got offered 2 grand and didn't make a ton of money that would be hard to pass up. While the next guy could call that chump change and be insulted.
This is why I say dependent upon the 2 making the deal.
It is possible to find a dog for 500 that will do everything that 2k dog will do. While it may be hard it is possible. That 2k dog may get killed on the first hunt if u get on the right hog. At that point was it worth 2k.
If a mans sole purpose for that 2k dog is breeding I can come nearer to seeing the price as long as the breeding partner is up to same par which would produce pups that would more than cover the expense.
Poor boy logic what can I say.

I told you before..and I tell you again...I like your poor man Logic...good post... ![Smiley](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I once had a dog back in the early 1990's that I said 5000 cash wouldn't get him...because 5000 can be spent here and there and then have nothing to show for it...but I also said that if one of my kids needed the money to finish college or anything that had a very high level of importance...then I would have sold the dog but not for nothing less...

take that 2k put it in the bank and get you a young dog and work it hard and you will be proud to say i started and finished that dog out. best part for me about hunting is to get to see something you worked hard on develop into a true working dog. and if you dont have time to do that your in to big of a rush

Save your money and keep your Whitey x Horn pup that you got from Jimmy in the woods and you'll probably have a $2000 dog in a year.

I agree to me you get more out of it when you train them yourself. But I do know people that are better off buying a dog cause they don't know how to train dogs and or don't have the patiance for pups

That pup is showing promise just needs to be shown. I don't hunt with a lot of people due to no drama. I have my eyes set on a dog I truly like, but so does the owner. It's gonna take a pretty penny

Hell my kinda dogs are hard to find. I like dogs that find hogs consistently. With all the dog traders, it makes it hard haha

I think it's tough to buy a good dog... And I agree w Reuben, what's the money worth to each individual. A friend of mine was offer big money for one of his dogs on a couple occasions.. I believe it was 2 and 3 k offers.. He never sold her and she was eaten by an alligator a couple weeks back.

Yep, that's the way it goes ! I turned down $ 3,500 for my Daisy gyp and one month later a boar hog cut the achilles tendon on her back leg and made a 3 legged hog dog out of her. Made me sick but I still would'nt have sold her even if I had of known that it was going to happen and I still would not take the same money for her now. She's not the dog she was but still does pretty good and I have her to start my young dogs with.

On one hand I agree, that is alot for a dog BUT on the other hand if i were in a bind for a sure nuff good dog and for one reason or another couldnt get a dog of the right caliber/exp level from within my core group of guys i would spend a cpl grand on a sure enough dog but you can bet your tail that I personally would hunt with any dog im interested in multiple times before i drop that kinda coin..........having said that i have yet to spend a 1/4 of that much on a dog......been lucky i guess
