Just wondering who else does this honestly and if you do how do you go about preparing them?

I have fed my dogs hog scraps as long as I have been hunting them with zero issues. Saturday we caught a few smaller sized hogs, anyway on the lease we were hunting they didnt care what happened to em they just wanted em dead so when we caught a little 60 or so lb sow i stuck it and gutted it on the spot.....anyway we hunted for abt 4 hrs after without the pig bein in a cooler so i wasnt about to try eating it......

Once i got home and got the dogs all settled i grabbed my sawzall and cut the legs up into 2" or so long pieces and gave em to the pups then quartered the hog out...(hide on) and gave it to my big dogs....anyway once i got what i wanted for my grown dogs off i tossed the remaining hog carcass in with all my puppies, by the next morning it looked like a pack of starving coyotes had set-up on it overnight lol.   between 5 pups from 12-20wks  they ate at least 30lbs of meat off of her.......once they are old enough to go they may not know exactly what they are lookin for but I imagine after they see the first hog in the woods i bet they remember how good little miss piggy taste lol.....should be downhill from there!!

Hope everyone caught a good one last weekend and all the dogs are fine!

I feed any and all raw and bone i can get my hands on.  I try to freeze for atleast 24 hrs.  Everything i've read says that'll take care of bout anything that could be harmful to the dogs???

fed a bunch to the dogs but I lightly smoke it for the dogs and finished the rest off for me .  but like said , at least freeze it first .  hogs carry all sorts of parisites that can be harmful to whatever eats it , mainly triconosis .

We feed small choats to our dogs and I usually quarter it and feed hair, hide, bones and all. They eat it all and never had any problems so far.

I have given it to them raw before on certain occasions when the dogs worked there butts off stopping it nad I have to gut it in the woods to be able to get the heavy thing out ha I usually feed them the fat right then and there if they seem real low on energy. I usually try to freeze it at least 24 hours first if not then I already expect them to get worms.

48 hours in a deep freezer will kill just about everything. I dont like bringing it home with the hide on due to ticks and fleas.

I don't do it personally, but IF I did, I'd surely freeze it first. I know alot of folks do it, and I'm not downing anyone for it by any means.

I guess I've been conditioned on the idea that pork is not good for dogs long term, having worked in veterinary medicine for almost 15 years. When I wanna give mine a raw treat, I'll feed chicken parts, beef, or venison. ONE of our dogs got into some scraps off a hog my husband was cleaning one time.....that dog was vomiting up funk nasty foul smelling green bile/mucous for about 3 months off and on, I SWEAR. We dewormed the bejesus out of him and everything. He got right again, but it was not a fun deal. Never again, lol.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I will freeze em prior to feeding em to my dogs in the future to be on the safe side........guess i got lucky this go round.....i have always given the dogs scraps, come to think of it dang near every hog i bring home i give em scraps off of but this is the first time I just let pups go to town.......figured what better way to pre-condition bulldo pups to hogs then for em to associate the smell of hogs with tasty dinner and a full belly.......id say it worked lol, They picked her clean!

I have fed it raw to my dogs numerous times with no issues. So far anyway but freezing or cooking does sound safer.

Yes sir, i agree that freezin it does sound safer..... I shoulda said in my previous post that i will start TRYIN to freeze it first but honestly i feed it raw because of how easy it is. 9x's outta 10 when I get home i put the dogs up, grab a knife outta the door of my truck, cut the hog up and pass it out before I ever go inside.....doesn't take an extra 10 minutes and its an easy way to save a little kibble.
