Hound with other dogs

I was needing a dog with a better nose and I was thinking a hound I know most are open on track but I don't mind that do y'all think it would be better to hunt a hound with fast gritty dogs or what's y'all's opinions

I have a treeing walker that always would slick tree or tree squirrels at night. Now i hunt her with our cur dogs she can hang with them sometimes ahead of them. She is by no means finished sometimes she trys to take tracks she cant. Our cur dogs arent real gritty but fast dogs amd get the job done

if you do that you will soon be selling them cur dogs to get another hound hahaha jk
get you a good nosed hound that can move a track an you will be good

How do you hunt? Walk? Road? Cast? Hood?

   how much country do you have to hunt ?   you just have to remember a hound will pick up a pretty old track . if the track is just a couple hours old , well you do know how far a sounder can travel in a couple hours not to mention them old rouge boar hogs .  just something to think on  .

I walk hunt road hunt and hood hunt and I have quite a bit of land to hunt

not trying to start anything but  don't think you have  to have a  hound  to have a cold nose ....lots of curs will track sign several hours old ......  lots of very nice dogs out there hounds and curs ....

  that is true I quit testing my Catahoula's on two hour old tracks  . but the curs are more apt to pass on a colder track to find a hot one where-as a hound will grub out the first track it comes on  .

This is very true. I used to cull a lot of plotts because they did not have any more nose then my curs.

On another note, I keep hearing that to have hounds, u need a lot of land. We'll that is true but I have also seen alot of good cur dogs that will stick with a running hog & end up miles away.jmo

cajun  you are right dogs of any breed that are top dogs you better have alot of ground specially these days where hogs are dogged regular .... i don't care to feed anything else ...  i hunt one dog most of the time so i can perty much control where i hunt  but if they jump or it breaks  they gone ...

I run mine with whatever...mostly with my cat gyp because she helps catch. Sadie is just as fast and sometimes even faster than some of my curs...and about the land I cant really take any of my dogs to smaller properties anymore.. ESPECIALLY that hound though. Her, the cat gyp Fidget, and our patter-pit gyp Munch are LOOOONG. Sucks when I have a lot of small properties I cant run on now.

Our hogs on our lease run 24/7 my hound ran one 6 1/2 hours and it was 25 miles on the garmin and half the time we didnt have connection with her  we our on a 11,000 acre deer lease in the heart of east texas and they run off our lease almost everytime and so does the cur dogs and so does my hound almost everytime

ya'll still have the lease at sunydale i believe ... if  so i hunted there with your dad and  mr mc donald years ago .....  some of that country was hard to get around on cross big creeks ...

No sir we dont have sunnydell any more dad kept it for 17 years then finally have it up! Tim stanley took over and after he died tj has it now! We are on renfro huntin club now

  a lot of them hounds are slow but for what ur needing maybe a half hound im more of a fan of half plots or quarter plots sometime half barks to much for me but most full blood hounds r to slow ive also seen some silent half blue ticks that would pick up a day old track and try some bird dog crosses they got some nose on them and the good thing about them is that they are silent.

  hounds are slow ?   I here that a lot but have yet to witness it , but I guess there are a few out there , wish my walker gyp was still in her prime we would get a race going   lol .

You might need to see a walker dog run if you say hounds are slow! I can drop mine right now and its 8:29 and they will be treed and have a coon by 8:34 to 8:40 and be with in 500 yds to a mile mine ususally arw fast tree dogs unless they get on a teack were a coon has walked early.

   I have a walker dog and by far no offense but he is the best looking hound I've ever seen in my life he will find a hog but barks every step and slow as hell and I mean slow he is hickory nut harry blood line and million dollar I should of just made him a coon hound but I was to busy chasing hogs he was silent when I first started hunting him then just one day he decided to bark on track and I mean every step and u tlk about a good looking hound I mean pretty colored as all get out but barks on track and slow as hell im sure there are some fast hounds out there but 95% of them are slow

I have a few harry dogs got some lipper some rat attack tequila sunrise and sackett bred dogd i have 10 walkers plus the three running walker crosses all of them are good dogs. Yes hounds are a 50/50 shot in every breed there will be a good fast bluetick,redbone or black an tan. But when someone refers to a hound being slow they usually refer to a bloodhound. The slowest of all hounds. I have a sackett bred hound on hogs and boy can she run, she will run them for days. None of this was ment to offend you or anyone. But in the coon world walker dogs are ususally the fastest but all different breeds have there pros and cons. An people have their opinion.

    95%  ?   how many hounds have you run behind sparky ?  I guess all the cat and bear hunters should just switch to cur dogs . as the breed goes your walker sounds like a dud [ no offense  meant ]  walkers can and should open regularly and move a track fast running with their heads up . sounds like yours is grubbing on the track for some reason , true not all hounds are feast but your 95%  are slow is so far off I really don't know how to respond .  like I said no offense meant to you or your hound just curious where you come up with the 95% claim .
