I agree with half breed your percentage is off , there are just as many slow cut dogs you just can't hear them ,
You never must of hunted with a good hound , they are fast an will put the heat on some game in a hurry

If you wanna see one that's not slow but no super super fast but will move a track an has put it on a few cur dogs message me

You might need to see a walker dog run if you say hounds are slow! I can drop mine right now and its 8:29 and they will be treed and have a coon by 8:34 to 8:40 and be with in 500 yds to a mile mine ususally arw fast tree dogs unless they get on a teack were a coon has walked early.

I have a walker dog and by far no offense but he is the best looking hound I've ever seen in my life he will find a hog but barks every step and slow as hell and I mean slow he is hickory nut harry blood line and million dollar I should of just made him a coon hound but I was to busy chasing hogs he was silent when I first started hunting him then just one day he decided to bark on track and I mean every step and u tlk about a good looking hound I mean pretty colored as all get out but barks on track and slow as hell im sure there are some fast hounds out there but 95% of them are slow

I have a few harry dogs got some lipper some rat attack tequila sunrise and sackett bred dogd i have 10 walkers plus the three running walker crosses all of them are good dogs. Yes hounds are a 50/50 shot in every breed there will be a good fast bluetick, redbone or black an tan. But when someone refers to a hound being slow they usually refer to a bloodhound. The slowest of all hounds. I have a sackett bred hound on hogs and boy can she run, she will run them for days. None of this was ment to offend you or anyone. But in the coon world walker dogs are ususally the fastest but all different breeds have there pros and cons. An people have their opinion.

Only thing I can say is that i coon hunted for years before we had pigs around here seen all hounds work and 95% of them are slow and 99% of them bark on track not my style I like em silent.

my number 1 strike dog is a walker gyp, and i run rough curs with her and i have had good sucesss with this combo. She is semi open on track and she will find you pigs, then them rough curs will get them stoped cause she is not gritty at all.

I was needing a dog with a better nose and I was thinking a hound I know most are open on track but I don't mind that do y'all think it would be better to hunt a hound with fast gritty dogs or what's y'all's opinions

You know, you can find hounds that are coldnose, gritty & fast & have it all in the same dog.  I will say hounds are not for everybody and I have cussed mine alot when I was ready to go home & they were not.lol Another downside to hunting gritty long range dogs, are they will be busted up or worse by the time you get there. I try to water my dogs down a little by hunting a real gritty dog with one that is not to gritty. They still catch most of the hogs 120# & under.

Got lucky on the hog on the right. Three of my plotts jumped him, ran him about 1/2 mile & caught him. Took us about 15 minutes to get there but they had him under control. Any longer & when the ears came off, those dogs would be in for a whooping. He had about 2 1/2" cutters & weighed about 225#. Not a monster but I would rather my plotts bay hogs like that.
The hog on the left, they caught him at first, then two of my females backed off & bayed, while my male held the whole time until we got there with a bulldog. both hogs were in the 225# range.

I'm with Cajun!!!  I'd just assume have a coldnosed, fast, gritty dog!!!!  I placing the over/under of sparkydog's age at 22!  And the over/under of hounds he's been hunting with at 9!   Now come on be honest tell us how old you are and how many hounds you've really seen!!!!   LOL!!!!!

You can catch a lot of big hogs if you track hunt with them both and use them right. If you got a cold nosed hound or any kind of dog that's not very fast, use them to trail and find the hog and if he runs let him run for a little while then send the faster, gritty dogs to him. But don't send them a half a mile behind the hog. Make sure you turn them loose either ahead of or right on top of the slower dog. As far as the hounds speed versus a cur dog, If your cur dogs are getting outrun by a hound they are very slow in my opinion. I've hunted with A LOT  of hounds of all breeds and an average speed cur dog that can run a track with his head up will be faster than most fast hounds..
