my bitch dropped her 6 pups a week ago. it was an accidental breeding and she is young, rite at a yr old. im sure age has something to do with it, but what in the world is causing her to nip and growl at her pups? she isn't injuring them YET, but it may come to it. I was out feeding and it sounded like a grown dog fight in the birthing box. she was growling and nipped 2 of them before I got in there and thumped her skull. she instantly went to feeding them. im sure iv answered my question, AGE, but could there be something else?

I kno its only 6 weeks but my boobs would be sore also. Age could have somethin to it. Try giving her more time away from the herd. She should want to go bak to them after awhile away from them. Probably good idea to ween those pups as soon as u can & cut ur losses before u really have 1. Good luck take care

Pups are only a week old...I doubt it's sore teets. I'd chalk it up to age Charles.

they r 1 wk old, not 6 wks, it shouldn't be sore teets, aint no teeth, her bags don't look rashed or dry cracked.

I agree, pups are hell on a momma dog, esp the first litter when she really usnt sure whats goin on. I always make it possible for the momma to get away from the pups for a bit to relax

I have seen it before and the pups she did not like did not get taken care of. If you want the pups keep an eye on them. If the others start getting bogger and leaving the "bad pups" behind then you will have to bottle feed. Of course you could just stand over her when it is feeding time. But if she really don't like them they will need some help.

Odd question but.....is there food in her pen? I have indeed seen bitvhes over the years that will growl or snap at their pups no matter what the age if there is feed nearby. Just a thought.

Food is constant in her kennel, but the pups cant get to it n she only nibbles at it anyways, as of rite now she is nibbling. She is in a 10'x10' kennel n the pups r in a 36"x30"x30" whelping/birthing box.

She nurses ALL the pups, but it serms she will growl n nip at the 2 biggest males, that r sleep growling n maybe she sees it as an intrusion or threat, but im speculating, thats why im pooling all yaws input n experience to find a solution and or reasoning.

Im obliged to all yaws help and process of illimination to rectify her bad parenting.

Well I think you should get a dog parenting book and go read it to her. Maybe you should listen to her more so she feels understood. Then go get some doggy fashion magazines. Read the articles and only show her pictures or larger dogs so she feels good about herself. If that don't work maybe find some doggie self help dog to come over and...

Hope you got a chuckle out of that.

If it is the bigger pups they may be pushing the other dogs out and eating too much making momma mad. She may just be putting them in their place.

Naw dub, iv seen her growl n nip at them while the rest of the pups r asleep. While nursing she is fine, its when they r sleepin or resting away from her.
