anybody ever heard of a dog getting brucellosis from a hog?  Ask Mike......I know for sure they can get it from screwing a dog but thats K-9 brucellosis. It's good if you value your dogs to make sure male and female are tested clear for breeding. |

Bigo had his bear dog come down with it a couple years back. Lot of contraversy on whether it can be cured and passed to offspring.

Yep... I've had 4 come down with it over the years. All tested positive for swine brucellosis. Three got it off the same hog, two ended up having to get neutered... one pulled through and sired a litter later on. My last dog died from it.

it seems like I said from other dogs but not from hogs...what I meant is that I know for sure it is sexually transmitted from dog to dog but I have never heard of a dog getting it from a hog but like Mike has said...he has had four dogs get it from hogs...However it can be passed on to humans for sure...had an uncle that got it from skinning a nilgi and he got very ill...took the doctors a good while before than figured out what it was... Brucellosis will make the male dogs sterile and the females will abort prematurely... a high percentage of hogs carry the bacteria... |

I had 3 dogs come down with it about 10 years ago all from a hog, the gyp died and the two males, one got castrated and the other we treated once we figured out what was going on. Roscoe is the dog we didn't castrate, I wish I would have re-tested him later in life because I never tried to breed him because of it. He was hands down the most complete hog dog I've raised, so far!  |

I have had it!! I'm still having pain ! Matter fact I'm at the ol doc now getting something for my joints. My wrist is what gives me problems . When I got it I ask the vet if my dogs could have it he said yes so I got 6 dogs tested which were my most grittiest dogs and they all turned out ok.. But me not so good!!!

it's called undeulant fever in humans . anytime you start feeling bad enough to go to the doctor be sure and tell them you come in contact with wild hogs on a regular basis so they know to test for it . otherwise they are clueless about what's ailing you .
