Just like building a dog up. Go get in a big trap or pen with a smaller pig but big enough to charge you. When the pig charges put your boot between his eyes and shove his nose in the dirt. Forget theplywood just shove his nose down jump behind him and leg the hog. Then when you go in and the dogs are helping it ain't nothing. When I go in a bay pen I don't want to be behind a board because I have seen them hit and find a hole somewhere under the board and that is all it took for them the hog to get right past that board. I have had a few moments where things did suprise me. But it would be the same if you jumped out from behind a tree. I ain't getting butterflies. When I did martial arts I would be smiling before a fight. I have laughed after getting hit real hard. When you are under stress you do what you have been trained to do. If you have not been trained that is when you freak out. So go practice what to do when a hog charges you. Then when a large hog charges and you don't even have time to think about a tree your boot will go right between his eyes out of habbit. If he is too big to shove his nose in the dirt at least you will be above the cutters and not in front or beside them. Grin

since i got hooked I've been having a real hard time with it myself. I felt the power in that things head and realized what could happen. I used to run up to the bay and now sometimes when I get up there I have to stand for a while to steady my nerves. It didn't help that i wasn't able to hunt for a few months afterward because of moving to a new place. I may be ruined. I think I'm going to have to bay and shoot or bring a half barrel to the woods with me if it don't get better. I've had some hogs get loose because of my hesitation a few times lately. It's sad cause I love the feeling when I lunge for that hind leg. It's either get it or it gets you when you lunge for it it cant be half measures your committed come what may. I feel high for the rest of the day. like on on a drug. So I know just what you mean.It would help if i could catch some 100 pounders once in a while instead of nasty boars and barrs. I havent heard one squealing when caught for a good long while it's always them tuff ones since i got stuck.

Mortal Combat spell it right bud ! an no i never have played any video games nor watch any cartons! i was raised in Louisiana with red bones and beagles an a shoot gun in my hand!! back to the point, so if u think about stupid #2  when going in on a hog then your going to get hurt sooner or later ...

Before you spellcheck someone else, pretty sure Shotgun is spelled with one O, and Mortal Combat is spelled Mortal Kombat  Grin

I grew up in Louisiana to with cur dogs and guns and I've never experienced this punch of death  laugh don't get your panties in a wad, it's a joke, so why not just tie the hog instead and kill him later.
Flawless Victory ! Grin LOL

Flawless victory! Hahaha that actually did make me lol.

I was just about to type out " Finish him"
Or Lu kang wins , till I saw this!

And heck, I've cuaght plenty of salt flat hogs as well as grain feild hogs, i generally remember either ropes or a knife, but There has been a time or two that I've walked out without boot laces or the band of my tighty whities. Haha

I don't hesitate to leg them. I run in and do what I have to do. It's after the dogs are broke off and it's just me and the hog is when my mind starts racing. I have no fear when the hog is caught by the dog.

Mr. Dub I do believe I'm going to go ahead and do that. My pops suggestion was to do that as well. Guess I gotta put my big girl pants and get it done.

Get some bay dogs and shoot them in the beak. Then when they do catch  you can have a good reason to be nervous that they will let go right when you reach for a leg.
