I WAS WANTING TO MAKE ONE TODAY I HAVE A PIECE OF CUTTING BOARD THAT A GUY GAVE ME ITS ABOUT 9" LONG AND 2" WIDE.

IF ANY ONE COULD THROW TOGETHER A QUICK SKETCH OF THE WIDTH AND THE TAPER ON ONE THAT THE HAVE THAT WORKS PRETTY GOOD WOULD BE GREAT.

ILL MAKE SURE THAT ITS ROUNDED SO IT WONT CUT THE DOG . I JUST KNOW SOMEBODY IS GOING TO SAY THAT.

Sorry, I don't know the correct answer Wink   I bought a breakstick a couple years ago, but never seemed to have it when needed.  Actually thought about having a pocket sewn into the cut vest to hold the breakstick, just never got around to it.   I usually just choke my dogs off. Huh?

I actually make breaksticks, i'll dig up the dimensions and a picture.  After doing it so long, i have forgotten the exact dimensions as i have a template stick that i use for a pattern.

Ok, here is an OLD version of the ones i make but roughly the same dimensions...

They are about 2 1/2 inches at the widest part of blade and back leverage paddle of handle & about 10-11 inches in length.
I make mine from a very tough plexiglass(not as thin as the one pictured - bout 1/2 inch thick)
and i always put a strap/snap that you can buckle to your britches so you don't lose it  Wink

PS - If you want one made, pm me and i'll give you prices etc...

THANKS GUYS THOSE SURE LOOK BETTER THAN THE ONE I MADE. WHAT DO YALL USE TO CUT OUT THE PATTERN I JUST USED A GRINDER AND WENT OVER IT WITH A VERY FINE GRIT PALM SANDER.  YALLS ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE BREAK STICKS.MINE.... MORE RESEMBLES A PRISON SHANK.  OH AND MINE IS 5/16" THICK

I use a router to cut the initial shape.  I have used a larger band-saw.(tough on bandsaw blades though)
Then i use the bench grinder to round off edges.  You might consider something a little thicker than 5/16.
I've used up to 3/8 material and still have them break on me, that is why i moved up to 1/2 inch.
Also, consider this... the longer the stick and the thinner it is, the easier you can break it.  You don't want it too short though.
I like the happy medium of just under 12 inches long, 1/2" thick and about 2 1/2" wide.
Not real easy to break them with these dimensions and made from the right material.
