got a young bitch who as of yesterday was fine. I went out to feed n water a lil bit ago and noticed a tear (it looks like) in her milk bag. its not bloody, nor is there blood on the concrete, nor any blood to be seen. she acts as if it aint bother her, has a good appetite. only concern is her pups are 3 1/2 wks old, eyes open, walkin around, aint tried eatin the puppy chow so I figure they still need a lil nursing atleast till she kicks them off her. cant seem to find where she hung her tit up, the birthing box is screwed together, but I bent or broke off all the screws that could potentionaly stick, poke, prod or cut a dog.

my question is, should I staple it up? I think she can get to it to lick it, it looks clean already, but it looks deep. again should I staple it closed?

not to be crude/rude uncouth or anything, but I don't need sry to hear bout it, hope she gets better soon, good luck or anything like that. I don't wanna clog up this thread. I need an awsner to my question, not sympathy.

Without seein a pic to know for sure its hard to answer. You say it looks clean and there is no blood anywhere so if it were me id probly just spray it with a little vetericyn and watch it.

I don't have a ton experience when it comes to dogs but maybe I can help some. This is a little different but the same as well. Buddys dog just got done with pups, bag got cut pretty deep by a hog. Called a lot of experienced people we know that's been hunting a long long time and they said to just let it go it will heal on its on. We was gonna staple it but told us not to being where it is that its real loose and soft. It healed up fine after a few weeks. I know that your dog is nursing pups but I don't think stapling there would help. Maybe this will help you out some

Don't staple it or you'll risk a pup pulling one out and choking on it. I wouldn't put any meds on it either because of the pups... just do hydrotherapy on it everyday and it will heal fine.

yes as mike said them udders go thru heck with a litter of pups . .  those pups being 3 1/2 weeks old if you feel the need to they can be put on a puppy gruel made from softened puppy chow and milk replacer and pulled off the gyp . they will eat at this age  I start feeding mine the gruel at 3 wks old and I had to pull the pups off of a gyp at 3 wks before and raised all of them just fine . my old plot gyp became mastitized when her litter was 3 weeks old and the vet suggested to just start feeding the pups and get them off the gyp and everything worked out great .

that's what mr Ronnie and randy tate said. Ronnie said if anything at all, sew it, not staple, but if it were him, he would leave it alone, them bags heal fairly fast. i'll just leave it be, have the wife ck it tomorrow before she leaves and i'll ck when I get back from my flt fri and before my nxt flt sat morning. thanks for yaws input, im obliged to yaw

and as far as them udders go  Charles it will amaze you how fast them things heal up having run mostly gyps all my life I have seen some dooseys of cuts and scrapes on them and they heal very quick . I would give her some anti biotics if it starts to look infected but I doubt it will as long as she can lick it and keep it clean  .

I would clip the puppies' claws too. They can be sharp.
