How is the number 1 way a dog dies to a hog? Is it the jugular vein? Trying to prevent this from happening in the future as much as possible- thanks

that and the guts and most of all the shock they get if you get a dog cut down do your best to keep it calm and not let it go into shock or it will most likely die

Had a catch dog die last night. Had only a few scrapes on him. He got knocked around pretty good so were assuming it was internal.

I lost two this year. One to overheating & one a cut to the jugular. Like said above, carry water or ringers with you. both are good if a dog gets cut down or he overheats. You have to get fluid put back into them. Shock is also a big killer. I have lost two dogs that never had a mark on them also & I am thinking it was internal. I saw a young plott get hit by a big sow & she immediately bowed up. Took her to the vet & I was right. Busted spleen & more & she went into shock & died at the vets. The other a bulldog, We watched a big hog hit this dog going in & he caught the hog but he died three days later. Freak accidents or just unlucky.

Number one killer of my dogs has always been old age and then cars. If you want to keep you dog safe then get a lap dog. Don't keep me safe either while you are at it. How about asking what is the number one way hogs kill peope to keep yourself safe. It is a dangerous world and you either live your life or you stay safe and then you never live. Same goes for dogs. You can lock them up and keep them safe or let them act like dogs.

are we collecting data for the not so reasonable anti's??? I have never lost a dog to heat exhaustion nor to a bad cut from a hog...but I have lost one to a train and had 1 or 2 stolen...

You ask how does a jugular get cut with a cut collar . Simple. I have had a big toothy bar hook a gyp behind the collar. Also had two huge holes in front of her cut collar. It can happen but a good cut collar reduces the area that can be cut.

Nothing is cut proof. I think heat is the biggest danger. It isn't hard to carry water with you. Hunt responsible.
