surely a hunter, road worker, drunk stumbling thru the woods, SOMEONE would have run into one of these creatures and gotten solid proof (good picture, shot one, whatever)

I dont think it's real, but who knows?

Quote
late sumer '79. Hunting 'coon on my home place with my partner and 4 finished hounds. 2 walkers and 2 B&T's. Two night champions and two more just as tough. These were 4 unsnap, get gone,no checking back, tree and kill type hounds. We were walking back to a patch of virgin timber with about 1-2 feet of standing water, full of briars and the like, hunted it all the time, middle of nowhere.

1/2 mile from the swamp we unsnaped the dogs and walked on. there was a creek crossing about half way there, and as we approached we heard an animal call or whale or squall....a sound that I had never heard in my life, or since on a place that I worked and hunted on 24/7 for years.

We both froze in our tracks and whispered to each other "what was that" hair standing straight up on my neck. Dogs had started off in another direction and were not near the sound. We talked awhile and descided to go on......talked ourselves in to it being a lion or pantheror something.

We took another route to the swamp and made our way in a couple hundred yards. We shut off our lights and leaned against a tree as the water was abour a foot deep. We could hear the dogs working in and out of the water at a fast pace, quartering, things were normal.......

About this time we had been standing still in the dark for 15 minutes or so and the dogs were dead ahead and heading deeper into the swamp.....when all 4 dogs stoped at the same time in the standing water. You could tell they were trying to figure something out. they never moved a foot but we could here them sniffing the air and then a whine and all 4 dogs headed for us at a dead run in the water. My big tough walker ran behind me and stuck his head between my legs shaking and whining my female right behind him, my partners dogs just hid behind him.

Now I said WTF to my partner and chambered a round in my 22Ruger just to make myself feel better. We both had those sunburst coon lights with the big belt head light walking light and hand held spot lights, and we lit up all the swamp that we could.....

This is where the fun started. As we were "backing" out of the swamp lights on and guns up, we were making alot of noise in the standing water but we could here something else just beyound the light following us and closing the distance. We would take 3 steps and stop and listen and the thing that was following us was walking on 2 legs we could hear the foot fall in the water. We would take 3 steps and stop and it would take 4 or 5 and we could here it plain as day but It would  stop just after we did each time. All this while our dogs are still cowering behind us and we are scared to death.....

We get to where we coud see the edge of the swamp where it turns to pasture..... We just turned and ran, as we broke into the open we could hear the foot falls in the water behind us still coming. The hounds were running ahead but were still close, looking over thier shoulders. Then my partner yelled for help and fainted. I ran back to him and rolled him over so he could breath, eyes rolled back in his head non-responsive.....

I threw my rifle across his chest and turned on the spot light ready for what ever it was, to attack.
The dogs ran to the next creek and hid under a bridge. I could see some shadows in the edge of the timber but it never came out of the cover. My buddy got his witts about him and got up and we went for the truck as fast as we could, dogs leading the way.

We never spoke of that night untill years later.....It really bothered both of us for a long time, I never hunted that place again after dark. I went back to the spot later that year after the frost when I could see alot better, this time with my 30-06. 50 yards into the timber I saw the bones from a dead cow stuck into the branches of a tree. About 15 in all some as high as 15 feet off the ground......

Some years latter I was watching a show about bigfoot and they had some audio of the sounds that they made........You got it, it was the exact sound ( I don't mean close I mean exact) that we had heard in the woods that night. It still bothers me today when I think about it and I am 46 years old. Bigfoot chased me out of a swamp.....and I lived to tell about it.

YALL MADE MY SKIN CRAWL
Growing  out east of Troy Texas some talked of some kind of creature  that would make a loud howling crying  call,,and heard it running down the  creek i know that 2 of my hunting buddies wouldnt ever go into this one stretch of creek bottom that was south of his daddys place after that,,,RIP James H.
and i never seen  James scared of anythng period
they would  wait for me as i went into that stretch of woods shining for coons and such with one  black and tan hound,,,i had a 22 mag rifle and a 44 mag pistol,,, mike (the hound) bayed  somethng one time and came tail tucked running back after thier stories i made
a quick retreat back to the opening  and we never hunted that stretch again..
they asked what wrong i just said " if mike was skeert so was i and i cant kill what i cant see"  and nothing was never said

this was during the winter of 78 or 79

Before i got introduced to dogs, me and some buddies would go spot lighting for hogs in the river bottoms right outside of trinidad. one night we were shining in the mule when we saw something black running upright in front of us. we shot once and gased it. This thing was running in the open field and we were trying to cut it off, but the thing was fast and made it to the woodline before we could get to it. We didn't tell too many people about it cause they would think we were lying. Not sure what it was, but it stood the hair on the back of our necks straight up. The next day we went out during the day and went to the spot where we first seen it, and there was a deer carcase in the tree about 15 to 20ft up! I say that they arn't real, but i cant  say what that was that night. In my own thoughts, if someone was to ever kill one, i think that the government would do something so that the word wouldn't get out. If i did i would either be a rich SOB to be kept shut of it, or i would be registured in the state mental hospitol by the government saying i was insane! Thats just my 2cents worth! I just wonder if there is a back woods guy out there that has one as a pet like on Harry and the Hendersons! LOL That would be awsome Shocked Grin

Who knows......There are a lot of "unexplained" aspects of life.  I hunted the East Texas woods just outside of Cold Springs, TX every winter from the time I was about 10 until I was 18......I've hunted mainly in the coastal bend area around Hallettsville and also been able to hunt way out west Texas some.......There is something about the east Texas woods that was creepy even during the daylight.....maybe just the thickness and inability to see even just feet into the tree line......We hunted about 5,000 acres that was owned by a paper company.....I know those woods were so thick that someone coulda hid a 767 jumbo jet in them and no one woulda ever found it.  My hat's off to ya'll who hunt them woods and call that home.....I'll stick to my scrub oaks and cedars....at least I can see if something is fixin to get me! I have had this discussion with several of my friends late at night over a couple of beers.  I used to be the one that always said no way in hell.  But the more I read about it from you guys and see stuff on TV, I could possibly be convinced.  For as many unexplained things there are out there, it's possible.  As for having one as a pet, that would be awesome.

never had no encounter with one, i roam the woods all night hog huntin and coon huntin, have for over 20 years, heard folks say they seen them, I went all the way to mississippi one time with some friends and searched the swamps for 3 days lookin for one where they said they seen one before...i agree with the folks that say someone would have doccumented or killed one if they were out there... but on the other hand i think they really do exist...what if they are smart enough to catch and kill anyone that sees them... I treed a black panther before on accident years ago, she squalled and made rackets i never heard before, and could likely haul a deer up a tree to eat it... I dont think bigfoot could be worse than shinning a tree expecting to see a coon and see a huge black cat perched on a limb hasslin like a dog with a 3 foot tail twitchin around and just starrin at you!!!  I hunt in coldsprings and all over liberty and montgomery county as well as most of south east texas, i got friends that wont hunt at night with me...big foot is out there folks, mayb he is stalkin you while your hunting at night!!!  if ol jake ever bays one ill tie his a$$ up and post a picture for you Grin all BS aside, i think they do exist way back in the pinneywoods and swamps of east texas
