Id like to think I know a lot about pitbulls and the history behind them. Although I've recently become interested in the xl dogs. Can someone tell me alittle bit about them? I mean I'm seeing 150lbs+ pitbulls, where along the line of great dog men did they start getting bigger than usual pits. I mean how and where are they getting this size.

I'm no bulldog man but I can promise you that a 150lb pitbull ain't a pitbull......

There are a few members on here that have quite a bit of knowledge regarding bulldogs and their history. Hopefully they will speak up and fill you in.

See Justin I agree totally, I got a good looking brindle pit, I can not hunt and feed him out and he might be 80 lbs. I've always thought between 70-80lbs was a big pit. I have seen alitle bigger, but I'm lookin at these dogs online that weigh 130lbs+ easy. And they cost $2,000 w/papers  these are big name kennels I'm lookin at, so that's why I wonder, when and where did the pits from the past get the size to produce what im seeing. I mean look up "KING LIGER" on you tube. He is a 150lb+ red nose pit. I've got an old family red nose gyp w/ papers. She is 11 now but even in her hay day she never weighed more than 70lbs.

All the huge old english bulldog bodied sloppy jowled looking mastiff looking dogs that some people still call "pit bulls" are what is dubbed "American Bullys" now. Those dogs are most definitely NOT APBT's. 70lbs is considered HEAVY for an APBT. My smallest is 28lbs and my absolute heaviest is 55lbs.

Mastiff and old English bulldogs were crossed into those things for the "look."

To each their own, but most are like walking genetic defects. Easty westy legs, terrible displaced shoulders, sway backs, weak horrible back ends.......ugh.

I mean I have a couple books, " complete guide to the American game dog" and " the complete history of the American pit bull" both very well written and notarized books. I've read both and more and have never seen or heard of dogs as big as some of these out there. I mean raising kain kennels has red nose dogs upwards of 120lbs. Lightner although he didn't breed only red nose dogs, he most certainly fancied them and never had a 100lb+ dog. And old family red nose certainly weren't this big. How do the papers show so much history?

well according to ukc breed standards the males should top out around 60# and females 50 .  I did also notice the ukc as of today is opening up the single registration for the apbt .  this will bring in a lot more trash to the breed .  they are letting in akc , abpt , and a Canadian registry's dogs .

Better off with an American Bulldog. I took a fella hunting this weekend who raises those bullies. He looked at my real pit and said she's small. Asked if it was so she could get up under the throat. I laughed at him. I didn't say what I wanted to.

Of course this is just my opinion.  Scatter bred, mixed bred JUNK !
It is not a bit of telling what is in those dogs .  For a real Pit Bull 50-60 lbs is pushing it now there were a few that was over that and some lines ran a bit bigger but it was not many and we always knew who they were .

Paper is paper worthless, anybody can write anything on it !

The worst thing they added to the mix was the Neo Mastiff. Those dogs are psycho and i think its one reason so many of these "thug" pits bite people.
