If it hadn't of been for Twisted we would have missed this hog!! I have been trying to get Mav to give him to me so I guess now I will be blowing hot air.

Several indications of age in a hog are;

1) Thickness of the teeth.As a hog ages his teeth will get show more mass.
2) Wear  on his front teeth.This can be deceptive depending on the amount of food available. This particular ranch was solid prickly pear with a lot of ripe apples this time of year and the pigs love them.The drought has been severe in this part of the state until recently and the pigs have had to hustle to eat.
3) calcification of the rib attachment. as a hog ages the cartilage attachment of the rib to the backbone begins to calcify( This is not exactily what happens but is close) . That is why you can cut the ribs off with a knife on a young hog and you have to use a saw on an old one. Needles to say I had to use a saw on this one.

UD- That is why I take these young whipper- snappers hunting wih me.They can drag the hogs out to the truck so I can keep eating. I am getting a little long in the tooth myself!  Wink Wink Wink
