I work on the electrical side of pipelines. We travel and work under most any contractor out there. I enjoy the work, but traveling ain't for me, I'll be headed home just as soon as one of the plants there has an opening. Camper beds and hotel beds just ain't the same as the one at my house

I hear ya'll as far as the sleeping in your own bed and being home goes. I worked for over 4 years on the road almost exclusively, all over the southern US and offshore a bit. I enjoyed being different places and the money on the road was great. We had our little girl a little over a year and a 1/2 ago, I haven't been on the road since then and honestly I kinda miss it. I like the job that i've been at for the last year, I work alot of long hours and weekends and don't mind doing it at all (who doesn't like more $) but I RARELY get to see my little one, I always volunteer for nights when they come up because I actually get to see my daughter more when i'm on night than when I'm on days. I figure if I hit the road again I will be gone for an extended period of time BUT when I am home I will be home 100% of the time, PLUS my other 1/2 and my daughter can come with me anywhere I go besides offshore so its not like I won't see them while I am out of town.......I have been puttin a few feelers out to see what is going on and where, I may just make the move again.........working 1/2 to 2/3 of the year sure is nice

This guy does and I love my job . I work for CNP gas operation / measurement of pipelines . It's not the best paying job I have had . But it's the best for me and my family and puts me home every nights and plenty of food on our table . And a very happy family . That what counts to me .

Circle c that's hilarious I got it in a fwd a few weeks ago... Pipelinin has its ups and down .. Money is awesome no doubt and you get paid to travel and see the sights, you can Pick your places to work when work is plentiful and can name your price if you can low down weld.... Downs you got lots of flakes an phoneys, cold on the winter an hot in the summer, and it's pretty costly to keep a weldin car together, but just like with anything else its not about the money to me I enjoy welding cuz no matter how good you are there's always space for improvement

Haha bad thing is most of the phonies and fakes are in supervision/inspection due to being not what you know but who you know.

Very true, something I still can't figure out lol.....how are you supposed to run a crew when you have no idea how a crew operates?!? I have tried to get on as a pipeline inspector with credible experience and certifications and not much luck.....but i can get into a plant or offshore pretty easily with my background yet I personally know of guys with literally zero experience who wouldn't know slag from lack of pen that have killer inspection positions.... you would be amazed at some of the "welders" that we test.....its crazy how much different pipeline code and qualifications are from chemical/refining plants and what each side allows.....

I know of coburn but don't know him personally.. Ya it's a lot different in the aspect of code a lot of it has to do with the smaw process used, procedure set, and type of rod...even though on downhill not mainline but alot of the facility work I've done for Chesapeake is the same severity as plant welding just a different smaw process... If you put a app in for enterprise I would be willing to bet you could be hired in no time their main office is outta Houston they have alotta work kickin off local and they payin some jack

Hey man I appreciate the heads up, i'll check out enterprise here in just a minute. And yes sir the codes are pretty crazy as far as variances in acceptable inclusions go. Out here we RARELY use smaw, almost everything we touch (a solid 90% anyway) is welded with gtaw process using er70s6 and graded to asme sect. 8...... pretty much smaw's 7018 in wire form.
