What happened? I had a buffing wheel jerk a blade out of my hand once and it stuck me in the thigh.

Yep, the buffing can be pretty dangerous. I've had several blades jerked out of my hands and hit me or the wall or floor. Before my shop burned down I was actually thinking of building a plywood shield to stand behind while buffing. I like to put a mirror finish on my blades and that takes a lot of time on the buffer.

Jimmy, I would think that it would have to be made out of leather thick enough to be used for saddle skirting to do any good. 4 to 6 ga. leather that is used for chinks or chaps would not be enough to stop the point on a good blade. I have no idea how fast a blade is traveling when it flys of the wheel of a good buffer but it is fast and hard !!! I think it would take at least 1/4 inch plywood , blacksmith or horseshoerer aprons would not be thick enough.
