The BEST dog you have ever owned/hunted.......

Some words of honor for those dogs mentioned up there .  Every one and I mean every one of those dogs gave their lives to hog dogging.  Everyone of those dogs died doing what they loved,  Black Jack, CJ, War Dog , Daisy and even others that I owned.  They died in the heat of battle and with that said you cannot die with any higher honor in the sport of hog dogging .  Ole Blu and Little Ann like I said are still here because they were retired to blood stock are I have no doubt they would have gone out the same way .

Now theres a ton more people on this board that i'd like to hear from and I can't imagine that theyve never owned or hunted with a dog worth mentioning in this post! So for all Of you that haven't posted yet tell us about the best and brag on em. i figured we all would enjoy talkin about damn good dogs who have burned a permenant spot into a mans memory........the best of the best past and present is what I want to hear about so come on with em!

Best dog I've ever hunted behind was my uncles ybmc gyp. He has had many dogs better than her,but by the time I started going with she was the cats meow. She had a cold nose and knew how to put pork on the ground. In fact she struck my first hog. The reason I would say she's the best is because she had no quit in her. She was hit by a train and still hunted two years after the fact, She died last year by an alligator as she was chasing a hog across the east Texas swamp. What a way to go for a legendary hog dog.

W-tates dog Rooney. I haven't had the opportunity to hunt with a lot of different dogs, but the several I've hunted with weren't as good as Rooney. He's just a good all around dog.

I thought that was the same Rooney I caught a lot of hogs behind him when Jasper owned him and when Charley had him he is a pretty solid hog dog.

Van Dorns Roscoe is the BEST I've had the pleasure of seeing hunt. He was around 5 years old when I started hunting with Erik. This dog would do it all. You could track hunt him, wind him off a buggy or cast him. He would work a block of woods and just keep on til the next and next until he was bayed. This dog hunted completely for hisself. You couldn't hardly catch him once you turned him loose. It was pretty much we'll be hunting til Roscoe quits. There was a stretch of about 3 years that this dog would finish 99.9% of the hogs he started. There were no if ands or buts about it. You were going to that dog bayed somewhere if you turned him out. He was silent, worked relatively close to a hogs face and would help catch with the bulldog. As soon as your hands touched the hog he was gone. We once caught 8 hogs behind him in a 45 min span. It was truly amazing to watch. He was the great uncle to these next two gyps I'm about to talk about.

Parvo and Girlfriend were littermates out of a black gyp and a woodruff male. These bitches were hell on wheels. They would cast as pretty as ever and within minutes would be running a hog. They hunted faster then most dogs run a track and they didn't miss much. I swear these bitches could count. If we bayed a group of say 9 hogs. There was a real great possibility we were about to put our hands on all 9. Both would roll of the bay as soon as you got there, and if there were other dogs already baying that hog. They'd leave and go find another. Parvo barked evertytime her foot hit the ground but Jesus she was so fast it didn't matter. 30 miles a hunt was nothing for theses gyps. I think it was 2008 that we caught 298 hogs behind these young gyps and an older roscoe. That was with about a 6-7 hog average per hunt. It seemed like nothing to go put 10 in a trailer behind these dogs. It's hard to put into words how good they were. Girlfriend is the dam to both Boogie and Briar which lead the way now and are not far off from being a part of this list. There's not much of a difference when dogs are that good

I know he's young but my trooper dog he is half plott half bmc will be turning two in December this dog has been great for me he does have his days as some dogs do but he will grow out of it with age if u feed him a track most of the time he will find the hog on the other end I have never heard a peep out of him on a track if he is hunting and another dog opens up on a hog he will flat out fly which is where his nickname horse comes from because he has a set of legs under him and not bragging because he is my dog but he is as ruff is they come if its 200 and down you will hear him bark maybe 4 times then its caught bigger than that he is gonna have an ear when the bulldog gets there this is about it just thought I would share

TSHELLY...I liked what you wrote about the Roscoe dog...sounds like he was real hog dog for sure...i sure do like that deep yellow gold color on a hog dog...do you know what his breeding was???

I have hunted with lot of good dogs over the years. But the best hands down is my buddy's dog named Hoot. He is a yellow dog that is 4 I think. If u go huntin with him an don't bay may as well go somewhere else cus ain't nothin there. 2nd is Prob a dog named Coco he was my gyps dad he actually came from the pound and was sure enough hog dog. He was mostly plott with some curr in him but had a hound bark and was silent unless lookin at the hog. My dogs are good dogs but not compared to those 2. My gyp will roll out as soon as hog is caught and will stay with one just like her dad. It's hard to knock it down to the best bc I hunted with a few  that are sure enough hog dogs

The best dog I have ever had was a Florida Cur named Bo. He was medium range (400-600yds), silent, rough as a cobb, athletic, run 30mi in a hunt no problem if he needed to. I caught close to 400 hogs just hunting him and my pitbull CD Zena!! Hard to replace him!! Maybe one day I will have another like him!!!

The best dog I ever had was a Walker gyp named squealer. Being young and (dumb!) I sold Her and got of coon hunting. The night I sold her  I turned her loose and she lolly gagged running around using the bathroom of course . I told her to get ahead. I swear on my grave 60 seconds later she struck and treed a big coon. The old man I sold her to said she was the fastest hound he had ever seen Period. I had her out strike a Grand night champion several times.

The best dog I have ever owned is  Blaze he is apart of my family to me . not just another hog dog . He is hunting fool , burn the woods up non stop type of dog  . I think he likes to hunt more than me . Just a little to open on a hot track to me . But he keeps on finding a lot of hogs
