Nelly
This is the best dog I've ever owned. She's 3/4 cat 1/4 plott. She had a name change after chasing her one evening for several hours with my Benelli shotgun. Thank the good Lord I didn't have a bigger gun closer! My father n law gave her to me at 6 weeks old n she found her first hog at 8 months old n never looked back. She's silent n ranges around 800 just casting. Loose baying dog n only needs a cd for help. She produces hogs in 10' or 100' weather n will go sniff one out where others have missed.

The best dog I've ever hunted with is Queenie. She resides in hamburg arkansas n is a true producer. She will cast n make about 500 yd circles. Dead silent n when she opens there is no doubt what's on the other side. In this pic she is 11 years old n still getting it. Last I heard she was getting down but truly a great hog dog. Supposedly the only time she got cut was with me n it was just a nick.

My best dog at the moment...

The best I've ever owned...

One of the best I've ever hunted behind...

Mike, I got to hunt behind Hunter once before he passed... That dog would get up and go! Was for sure a goodin! I also like that Lady bitch Peaches owns. She's a woods burner for sure. I like the bottom in both of those dogs... Showed no quit for sure. I've had the pleasure of hunting with quite a few people from the board, and got to hunt with some good dogs. Really thankful for it.

Out of all the dogs I've got to hunt with, Blakebh's Zig was probably top for finding and stopping hogs. He got it done one way or another... Once he sees a hog he didn't stop, endless bottom. He's still alive, but pretty much retired. He's sired quite a few litters and will hopefully continue to do so... But he taught me how to hunt hogs as well as a few other men I know.

The bitch in the pic with Zig is Pistol... And she is a dadgum go getter as well. Zig is her sire. She hunts different than her daddy, but has the endless bottom that we look for. Her and my Fred dog were probably one of the most fun pairs of dogs I've gotten to run behind. Really like her a lot.

And I will go ahead and say this as well, Blakebh's Jane was most solid catching, didn't care if she was getting torn up, not letting go CD I've EVER hunted behind. Although she had issues with anything that wasn't human, she was hell on wheels for hogs. Loved hat dog. RIP Jane.

Fred, Pistol, and Jane

Best dogs I own are by far Fred and PJ, my find and catch dogs. Fred doesn't quit... He's the kind of dog Tshelly describes as hunting for himself. Bottom for days... Lots of hunt. Don't have the population that y'all southerners do, but he hunts hard as he can to find anything anywhere we drop him. Getting pretty stubborn in his old age, but I'll take it.

PJ is my roll dog... If I go she goes unless she's in heat. From 8 months till now at almost 4 she's getting it done. Strong holding CD and great wind, and super smart dog.

Pj left, Fred right

BUT, the best dog I ever owned or have met was my T girl. She was 19 when she passed. She lived a long loyal life with my family, and was adored by everyone that met her. She wasn't a hunting dog... Although she's jumped rabbits and skunks ect, but she was my friend. I got her when I was 9 1/2... She died almost 3 years ago now. I'm 31. Still not over it... Miss her dearly.

Some day I'd like to hunt behind some of these dogs you guys have. I Ain't never stepped a foot behind any other dog except the ones I got and I know I don't have anything near worth talking about. Some of these dogs you guys talk about leave me in awe. It find it amazing how one dog can be thought so highly of by so many people. I guess it takes being around one of those dogs to realize just what the real deal is and how few and far between they are. Sounds like every once in a while there's a dog that makes you question every other one you've seen.

I'm sure there are a few other dogs that I've forgotten to mention but that doesn't mean I don't think they were good dogs... One dog in particular that I've seen do it over and over, and heard stories of him from owner and other folks is Brian's Superman dog. Jam up dog for sure. Superman is the yellow dog front left.

The best dog I've ever hunted behind...

That's pretty easy one for me.

I'd like to tell about the best dog I've 'owned'. I have a decent one and hunt with a few decent ones of my buds. But the best dog I've ever hunted behind was special...a once in a lifetime type dog.

Now I'll preface this with the fact that maybe his former owner and I don't really see eye to eye on alot of things and don't hunt together anymore and have mutually chosen to take seperate paths after many years hunting together. But, really, as time goes by there ain't to many hard feelings. Just Humans being humans, sometime  cognoscent reasoning can be our downfall as a species even tho it is what sets us apart.

Now to the best I've seen...

A dog named Stan. He was a mutt. Nobody knows what he came out of. He was picked up as a free dog from a pc of paper in a store window. Paper said he was a coon hound.
He was no coon hound, tho he was Black and Tan. He was no catahoula. He was a mutt. He had physical traits resembling dif breeds, but he was an obvious mutt.

What Stan was tho, was a hogdog!
He could get trashy in deer sometimes but wouldn't run em long. But if there was a hog around he'd more often then not find it. He also had the bottom in a race and the grit to make one sit.
He didn't always strike a hog first, and had a wierd sense of pride for a dog, where that would totally piss him off...
He didn't like to honor another dogs bay and if he did wouldn't be there long like he would on his own find before he'd roll back out to try and to top it with a get even look in his eye...

I've hunted behind a few big named breed curs and hounds that were good dogs...but Stan was better from my viewpoint. Maybe I just liked his style. True hound guys like what those breeds do and I can dig it. But I like a cur style more. But I can say he wasn't just some close range dog by any means...he would go for miles and hours after tuned in.

Unfortunately for my bud. Stan being the mutt he was just never could reproduced 'himself'. After trying from all kinda directions and makin guesses and feeding litters it just never happened. So it goes and is one of the curses of breeding on a mutt of unknown breed lineage. It was frustrating for me watching so I can quite imagine how it was for him breeding litter after litter to be let down.

Regardless Stan was one hinting sob in his own right! ...and a true hogdog.

He died of lymphoma a couple years ago at a pretty decent age and believe me he lived plenty of life!

Want to add...

The dog had this weird almost human like pride when dealing with other dogs that I haven't seen before or since. He had a feeling like 'I ain't gonna let you beat me' when I watched him interact. He hunted fine with dogs outside his yard. Just kinda ignored em but if they struck a hog you could really see it pissed him off...
With dogs off his own yard he was always out to proove he was the alpha wolf pack leader and he was gonna try and proove it to them to reinforce that.

Just a strange dog, but a good dog none the less
