This was the first of 8 mounts I have to do or possibly have done this year.LOL. This pig was from a trip that I took my neighbor and his son on. We had a slow night but ended up with this little boar. Since this was him and his dads first time hunting with dogs I decided to do this one first and give it to him as a memento.. Although he didn't stick it due to all the commotion in knee deep freezing cold water he was still there and a little trooper the whole time.. Keep in mind this was my first one to ever try and I learned a lot doing it so hopefully the next ones come out better Him with his catch. This pig couldn't have weighed more than 150#'s even soaking wet but he had some good teeth for his size And the finished product.. I haven't glued in his whetters or cutters yet.. Stil trying to figure how much to fudge on em.. LOL You will notice the yellow in spots that just would not come white.. Turns out I boiled it to hot and cooked the fat into the bone which is darn near impossible to get out..

Looks fine to me. I would print and frame the pic of Lil man and the dog to go with the mount. I like the pic with mount because 30 years from now he may remember his age but a pic just really brings it back. He will even remember the name of the dog.

You might soak it in Acetone for awhile and get some of the yellowing out of it. You're right though,.....boiling is NOT the best way to remove the flesh from a skull. If you boil it too long the bone gets chalky and will flake off with you. Letting the bugs do it is better to me. Then soak it on Acetone to degrease it.

I have read that and have also read that white gas works well too. I have not tried either one. I think I will try one or both on the next one. Here is the latest one I finished I did not boil this one near as hot.. Just brought it to a boil then turned the fire down and put a lid on it and let it simmer for about three hours with half a bottle of Dawn in the water. It turned out a lot whiter This is the stuff I'm using to whiten after the cleaning process. Got it at Sally's Beauty Supply This is the head I am working on now. I cleaned this one with the cold water maceration method... Meaning I submerged it in a bucket of water and let mother nature take care of it... Now let me tell ya, this head has been in that bucket since February and when it came time to empty it and clean it up.. HOLY CRAP its the most rotten thing you will ever smell.. I have a terrible stomach so I put on a respirator but it didn't work on keeping the smell completely out so I dry heaved a few times. LOL. This is the way it came out after washing it off so I am going to just try and start with the whitening process. I just paint that crap on and seal it in a plastic bag and let it sit in the sun for a few days.. If anybody has any tips and tricks that would make this easier please enlighten me because this stuff is a lot of work..

Everything I have read said that bleach was a big No No in skull mounts..

I used bleach and water on a javalina skull many years ago...left it in an ice chest and after 4 or 5 days I saw bone chipping off an that is when I removed it and I rinsed it and it bleached out nicely...
I have heard that hydrogen peroxide salon strength is good to bleach out skulls...
