Not sure if this has been asked before on here, but our dog found another snake last night.  It being so dang hot the last few days, guess they like to hang under our front porch.  Do any of y’all know of any home remedies or repellents that work well?  Thanks!

Molf balls work great. Spread them around your house , barn , dog houses . Snakes hate the smell of them.

I believe you can buy bags of sulphur.  Guy at my feed store you just need one of those little seed spreaders and just make a perimeter with a light dusting of the sulphur.  Said it works great.

I have heard both but the only sure fire way is to remove the food. Tall grass any thing that can be used as cover in the open areas must be removed. Keep grass real short 2" or less. Put out traps for mice and do everything u can to rid ur property of them. In the country this can be very difficult but it does work.

there is some netting stuff you can put around your house and it will catch/trap the snake...  kinda works like a gill net for fishing. I think its called snake fence. Only problem is it traps the snake and your dogs can still get bit until it dies...

Get some king snakes. You will be down to one snake in no time Grin King snakes don't bother nobody but they will eat any other snake. I always wondered how they breed. I would like to breed them and release them. They will eat the mice and other snakes. Problem solved.

I like the king snake idea, I always thought if a person could raise some road runners and train'em to stay around the house that it'd be cool...

just releasing six to twelve kingsnakes a year would work. I ain't joking about raising and releasing them. I would only use native snakes. Because they will have the immunity to the local rattlesnakes already when they are born. I ain't tried to find the sex on a snake but just catch some and have some snake person tell you which are boys and which are girls. I did a quick google search and found out how to get them to breed. There is still a chance they may try to eat each other. But then just make sure you have areas around your house kingsnakes like and they will naturally hang around. Just keep some for breeding in snake cages. I think I would use one with a color that is not black or look like a coralsnake so I know not to kill them.

Thanks for all the help y'all.  Two of our dogs had a snake bite last summer, and our dogo's head swelled up so bad he looked like a over-sized bull terrier.  I'll have to try these ideas...might have to think about the raising and releasing kings snakes part though.   laugh

what kind of snakes are you have'n trouble with copperheads or rattlers.   I had copperheads so bad one year it was pitiful.   I killed 19 spring to fall.  Tried everything. Moth balls, sulphor, malithon.... You name it I tried it, but once I quit WATERING the garden and the yard the copperheads quit showing up.  They would come to the moisture.  The next year 12. Had to learn to watch what I picked up when I picked the garden.  Good luck with you snake problems. OH yeah cats and genies did work either....

snakes have there fork toungs out picking up heat from various ranges. now moth ball don't really work and if you will look up online about snake hunters used to put gas in dens to push snakes out, now what they don't tell you is that those snakes will never go back in those holes again because of the vapors that stay in there. at some of these stores you'll find on the shelves different snake begon crap that don't work. now if your house is some what close to the ground you can put a trench all the way around you house and go to the hardware store and get some hard ware cloth about a 1/4 inch and run it all the way around you house it will keep them out but as far as trying to keep them out of your yard, won't happen. i used to catch and mike rattlesnakes for years and it is almost impossible to keep them out, now if you find something that work all the time please let me know i would really like to try it myself
