One of Mandi's dogs "requires" a cut collar, and with us running both a radio collar, and a GPS collar, this poor dog looks a little like this lady.

So, I decided to make her a leather cut collar, and attach the radio collar to it. I was going to attach the garmin collar as well, but did not want to have to mess with the wires in the garmin collar, and chance getting them cut in this collar. So we will just put the garmin collar over the top of this collar. By running this setup we hope the dog will have some more flexibility.  While I was in Tandy leather picking up the required material, Mandi stumbled across a pink ostrich hide...immediately she placed it on the counter, and said this is what my collar will me made of

Now this is my absolute first leather product to attempt, so I am sure there are plenty of mistakes, but I think it will get the job done.  The collar is now at the upholstery shop being stitched with pink stitching along the sides and down the center, and having velcro stitched in place to keep the collar from twisting. Once the collar comes back from the shop this afternoon, I will rivet the quicktrack collar in place, and it should be ready to go.

The collar is constructed of leather, with collar straps riveted in place, then pink ostrich overlay.

That does look pretty sharp. Maybe a retirement business? designer cut gear. Pink ostrich, alligator, maybe python or lizard. The possibilities are endless!!!!!!!!!! Grin

Nosightsneeded,

I don't think this collar is necessarily more flexible than the collars she has been using, but having the radio and GPS collar running on top of this 4" collar, will reduce the amount of coverage by 2". That is where I think the dog will pick up some flexibility. Due to the design of her previous cut collar, I was not able to attach a radio collar, nor was I able to run the GPS around it, as it was too bulky. Hopefully this will resolve those issues.  If not, then I will try some other ideas out, until I find one that does work. Wink

TrueBlue,

If you decide you want a collar down the road, get me your dimensions and I will make one. We owe you something for all the photography tutorials/ lessons....

That looks good Chris.  I'm a sucker for a good leather collar.
