I'm sure some of the experts will chime in.  But they come in a variety of shapes and sizes; from black and tan, yeller, red, ring necks, pied or pinto (whatever you call it) even a few leapord strains.
Most are ROUGH, one or two out type dogs.
To me, my ideal fl cur (the type I remeber as a youngen and would love to find) would be a block headed, bob-tailed dog with the right amount of leg, enough for speed and agility but not to much that they couldn't burn through the palmetos.  Wide and deep chested, not a huge dog but I'd say in the 50-70lb range

Heres the topic from a while back.  There are pics of mine, noah's, crackerC's and a couple other folks Fl cur dogs on there.  AS well as some good info from people who know the dogs better than i do.  AS far as getting your hands on some, you gotta know someone usually to get your hands on one.  You will see pups for sale from time to time, but they are usually not cheap.  Best info i can give you if your lookin to buy one, STAY AWAY from Sean Kelley, he uses the screen name Ninja on the web.

if your referring to Ninja from southernairboat.com he is a joke. real fl curs and cracker curs dont get sold on the net. they hardly ever get sold! they get traded among the men that need them and if they dont make it they get culled! but from time to time you can come across them, im a huge fan of them and would like to see pics and hear storey just b/c im from central fl and have been around a few growing up.

Jack has the look of being a serious dog! Like that look! I hear a lot how hard it is to get a Florida Cur, but I have seen Mr Partin selling some of his pups, I had some pups for sale just 2wks ago. Sure there are people who will not sell any of their pups, but I feel its more because they are trying to make people think what they have is only for cowboys or their cronies,  or maybe they are afraid that the dog will be a cull. They tell good stories about their suppose of super stars, and how they been hunting them for a 100yrs like that means they are better then everyone elses dogs. A lot of hog hunters like to create sensationalism about themselves and their dogs! I find that pretty funny!  Evil Iknow I guy that has some Florida Curs he has been breeding for 40yrs and has 14 gyps bred right now! Their out there to be bought just be ready to get one when they are available. They are a very good breed of dog for hogs and cattle if you want a dog that is smart, athletic,  tough as nails, and can get the job done for you by themselves then give them a try!!

Jack is a goofball in the yard, but as soon as you turn him out, you dont have to say a word to him, hes gone.  Hes gettin up there in age and his checkins are getting sooner and sooner (15 to 20 minutes) but turn him out with somethin and his competitveness kicks in hell go all night if whatever he is turned out with will.  The other thing i like about him is he always knows where i am.  I can drop him drive off and sit and wait and he always shows up.

BUt your right about smart.  He has stock sense.  He knows what he can handle and his daughter suprsingly has gotten to be the same way.  his son on the other hand is also like him, gonna have to learn the hard way, which most of the males ive been around have had to do..

I sold a few off the last litter i had outta him, but most were given to friends or friends of friends that wanted one (which is the way its always been around here).  Then what ever is left can be sold, i dont cull puppies if i can get them a home.
