Ya mike no harm intended... there are lots of places that insist it be that way... some of the best places i no are that way laugh believe it or not i dont hunt them either... its against my upbringing and belief... I dont hunt just to kill, period... my paw-in-law has a 5000 acre rice farm in winnie and he hates them hogs, they tear up his fields... Its a a$$ chewing everytime i pull out with a cow trailer loaded up... ask anybody that hunts down there with me Grin Everybody has their own way, none right or none wrong... just was not the way i was raised angel and mule man they are wildlife... and you will wish you had not stuck them all when we run out of hogs to hunt Grin I would not dare turn a hog... boar, bar, or sow back loose in an aggricultural area, but I do relocate them to where they are not a nuisance.

We have only crop land around here like I said. And if you can figgure out a way to kill em all off, you will be doing better than all of the wildlife biologists that have been hired to do just that. Just like the coyotes, a biologist told me recently they estimate that there were over 500,000 coyotes killed in texas alone last year and the population increased. We caused the hog problem, not nature=not wildlife. my opinion

I like to kill them. I eat a few, my dogs eat a few. The buzzards get the rest. Pork is on sale for 1/lb at HEB, you cant beat that.

people stopped barring them and started a hog problem Grin You say that we cant kill them all off... and its likely your rite... but what about when them biologist find a way to erradicate them... and they will, a way of life will be gone... they brought in helicopters to my father in laws fields, killed 90+ hogs in two hours... you ever seen a pile of hogs that big?  their decaying boddies killed as much rice as the hogs did nearly... with people whinning about all the hogs and about the cruelty to animals and all that, Its a matter of time till its all over folks. Surely you dont believe the state will just be over run by wild hogs and nobody step in and stop it. Enjoy it while you can Grin

the hogs that go to the processor are just as dead as the ones that dont. I have no doubt that the govt will figure out a way to control the hogs. if we dont lose our rights to hunt them first (thats what i think will happen) BUT I use a Hen and rooster fixed blade when I stick mine!! got it from bass pro. it holds an edge great!! OORAAAH K-Bar, all the way.

As far as barring goes, I am slowly becoming a fan. They sure turn out to be some nice hogs when you catch them on down the road, just like it was stated though, you gotta be carefull about it.

if i use a knife it is the moore maker i carry on my hip

We traded a pup a few months ago for a Moore Maker knife and I must say I was impressed with it. If you can find one of the proper blade design, that would be a good choice. I have been looking at a Gerber Mk. II for a while, but don't want to plop the money down. I think that it would be AWESOME:

Forgot to mention, that I too, am currently carrying a Buck 119.

I heard the best steel to use to make a knife blade is from a leaf spring.  Something about it being real hadr steel.

I hate to leave any hog alive, i just think that could be the hog that ends up killing your best dog a year or two down the road.

I like my knives I build.  Nothing like sticking a hog with a knife you build your self
What is the best way to start off to build a knife and what supplies will I need?

1. Something to cut out the general shape of blade you want, cutting torch, plasma cutter, my dad uses a concrete saw.
2. angle grinder to finish getting the shape.
3. 4x21 belt sander, grind the edge on it.
4. Drill press to put holes in for rivets, or you can skip that part and use epoxy to attach the handle.
5. Buffing wheel to shine the blade.
6. coarse, medium, and fine sharpening stone.

That should be all that you need to get started for practicing, if you really get into it and start getting good then there will be more to it like heat treating, and better sanders for hollow grinidng the blade.
All the supplies like steell, handle material and riverts go to texasknife.com

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask
