Good friend of mine and hunting buddy had an ole Fl leopard Gyp years ago that got her front ankle area messed up as a pup and never healed right.  She couldnt run on it AT ALL, but would flat out run anything i had three legged and never slowed her down.  Shed still be huntin if she hadnt died giving birth.

I've seen military working dogs with 3 legs. A lot of dogs can bounce back strong.

This very well could have been the best plott I have bred but he died at such a early age, there was no way to tell. This dog, Ranger had it all. Speed, nose, beautiful mouth & grit to spare. He was more or less a running catchdog & one trip he had his back leg so cut up, it had to be amputated. did not bother him until about the three hour mark & then he slowed down. When he had 4 legs he was always out front & it did not matter who I hunted with. With 3 legs he would still be at the front but might not be leading it. He kept getting cut up & then he lost a eye. If I would have know how well he reproduced, I would have retired him. About the time he was two, he got cut real bad & ended up hemorrhaging that night & dying.

I have a dog that got his Achilles' tendon cut, he walks on the top of his toes but the only thing about him is if he is hunted more than one day his foot will swell up

let him heal and hunt that dog! my buddy has a gyp that still has all 4 legs but had here tendons cut in one of her back legs and while she cant use it any longer it doesnt slow her down and since she has healed up, still a great dog that hunts her tail off and produces hogs
