Well been putting this off for years but finally got cornered by the wife and wad placed in headlock.
Building our first house and its gonna be a log home.
Just wondering who all has one and anything you would have implemented during the build or done different.

Am all ears.

Enjoy!

Lookin good YBM!! I'm currently in the market for 5-10 acres and looking to build the same type of thing. Log cabin, wrap around porch, and interior finished out in knotty pine. Looking for it to be the last place I live in so I'm on a 5yr or more plan to get it done. Keep us updated with pics as the project comes along!!

YBM, I live in a log home. Only thing I will tell is keep up with it. Ours sat empty for 9 years and had a few spots start rotting. It is two story and has "settled" so you feel like your walking down hill when you walk towards the outer walls when your upstairs. The outside walls that are the entire two story height are a bit crooked now. Not sure if this is due to the lack of maintenance or the fact the we live so close to the coast. It was straight and pretty when I looked at it in 1994. This one was built in 1985 and looks like the same type of logs you're using.

When you install the electrical, be sure ti put in a switch in the master bedroom that will turn on all of your outside lights and living room lights. You hear a noise, flip the switch and see what's going on without leaving the bedroom....

Lol Charles I couldn't put together a linkin log set...let alone build a house.  Haha

Its a log home company from here that is building it for us. I could not deal with Saterwhite...to expensive and everything seems to be an extra upgrade. So at the end of their lecture a regular sized home would be twice the price of a conventional.

These boys do a better job with the same type logs and Saterwhites premium package is standard with this crew.

Gonna keep this house old school. Will be a story and a half with a suspended log cat walk dividing the top two rooms. Steep roof with no dormers like the old dog run houses used to appear.

O yea its gonna be a silver metal roof. Dont like all the fancy colors.

O and T bob .......dont mind her being barefoot....but no mo babies for this stallion. Workin on getting the kids out. Lol laugh

Charles.   They dont order it by kits. They have a partnership with a mill in Utah and the logs come out of northern Utah in Canada. They order the logs whole already D cut and then trim to fit onsite.
