Have noticed alot of people saying I have a Parker dog but its timid I have had one and she was no where near timid.

I don't know anything bout them but I can't stand timid or skiddish dogs just one of my pet peevs.

some of it can be genetics and some of it can be lack of proper socialization as pups...I believe in socializing all little pups...makes it easier to train them and you don't have to treat them any different than any other dog when done properly...

My Lil Parker gyp is no where near timid either she is a ball of fire at 3 mths she was baying shoats in the pen and now at 9 mths she gets out 400+ and hunts her tail off I rarely take her out in fear that she might run into the wrong hog and ill lose a pup that's already showed me a bunch. She has been on 15 hogs already and I'm putting her up till she mature a Lil

I just want to know how many Parker dogs you have seen to come out and insult them all? I don't have any but your statement sound a bit across the line to me. |

I had a half parker that was super timid. I raised the dog from a pup. He was super timid even with me and no one other than myself could handle him. I had the pups mother for a year or so and she was a one person dog and it took a while to get her to trust me. I dont know for sure if it was just the strain of parker i bred to or not that caused the timid behavior. The parkers i have been around are different to say the least.

sir I quoted you. I did not insult you. I have no reason to. I wanted to know what a lot means to you. The subject of this thread is why are so many. So how many is a reasonable question. If I had Parker Curs then I might be upset. But I have thought about getting some. So I would like to know about the dogs. So please don't get all upset because I would like to know the facts that lead to your opinion. We can't talk opinion until we know the facts. |

I hunt Parker's and I only have one gyp thats timid and thats because i just use her for breeding and she dont get out much. None of the parkers i hunt are overly timid.

Don't know about timid, but I hate Parker Dogs. They make my soup hounds, look like soup hounds!

I like a man-shy skiddish dog. It has nothing to do with their hunting drive and has no bearing on their fear of a bad hog. I like them because no one can steal them or pick them up in the woods but the owner. I had some cur dogs years ago like that and they were great. I bred a cur to a top Parker dog, "Rowdy" and I noticed these were all but one of five a bit man-shy or kennel shy. However, they burned up the woods. I bred same female to a plott hound and got no shy dogs. I have hunted with pure Parkers , around 6-8 and none were shy, but none were boot-licking friendly to strangers either. I think many top hog dog lines tend towards the shy business, and just need some extra attention and handling to get them over it, if that is what you want. There are way too many very happy Parker dog owners out their to make one thing this small quirk matters.
