I've got a 3 yr old gyp that hasn't touched any food in 4 days. It's been pretty hot here lately and I know my dogs will slow down eatin when it's real hot out, but not completely stop eating. Ive put fresh food out for her each evening cuz its covered in ants after sitting all day, butbshe still wont touch it. She usually scarfsvit right up. She's drinking what seems like a normal amount, just not eating. She ain't all drawed up like she's impacted or anything, and when I've let her off the chain she's running around the yard just like normal. I've had three stools from her in the last 4 days. I tried giving her some hot dogs tonight but she didn't even want them. She is in reach of an apple tree that is dropping fruit, but I can't imagine she is filling up on that.
Any ideas of what the deal could be??

Don't know what it is but, we just lost a 3 yr old lacy gyp that did the same thing....
Get it to the vet soon. After a week ours was dead in the kennel.

If she is shedding a lot and her hair seems dry, it may be her thyroid.
Another possibility is, some gyps that dont get bred develop infections in there uterus from having female related problems. If there is an infection, it can become like a cancer and spread through the body. Females that get this infection, usually stop eating. They can and do remain active and drink water.

The uterus infection that hog hunter is talking about happened to my unbred female last year. She quit eating and eventually started to drop major weight. She was probably 6 years old at that time. The vet said the recommended procedure is to spay her, which I was fine with until he said it would be close to $500 or he could try antibiotics for $200. I went the medication route and she did a full recovery. But I'd keep an eye on her if she starts losing weight or acting funny, I'd take her to the vet

Pyometra? USUSALLY but not always they will show more clinical signs if it were pyo.....but not always I suppose. Any discharge? Have you checked her temp? That's a BIG indicator of infection. Has she vomited at all?

Well...Coccidiosis is rampant this year. They don't have to be puppies to get it. Off the food is common with it...they keep drinking too but there is usually vomiting when it gets bad and then lethargy.

Check on GDV... In other words twisted stomach. SOMETIMES it starts off mild that way... If you don't catch it now she will be dead within the week.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Like everyone else I was thinking it could be one of a million medical conditions. Today I came home on lunch to ck on her and she still had not eaten. At the suggestion of my wife who said "maybe she is just sick of her food", I gave her a scoop of the cheap ol roy food my wife feeds her little yappy house dog, and she scarfed it all up right there like she hasn't eaten, well, in like 4 days. What the heck, she wouldn't even eat hot dogs last night. So this evening when I went to feed, I gave her the sports mix she has always eaten, she went over and sniffed it then walked away. So I went back and got some of the ol roy for her and she ate it all as soon as I put it down! Really? She's gonna turn into a picky eater all of the sudden?
Anyone ever had a dog just quit eating one type of food like that? When I used to feed diamond I got a bag that smelled "off" one time, and the dogs wouldn't hardly touch it. Haven't had that issue since I switched to sports mix. And it was the bottom of the bag that I've been giving her the last few days as I just had to get a new bag today so she's already eaten plenty of it. I'm happy that she's eating again but it kind of irks me that she done that. I guess I'll just keep feeding her the ol Roy for a while and see if she'll go back to the sportsmix.

We had a gyp do that for about the same amount of time she wouldn't eat she got down and nobody coul figure out what it was. Then all of the sudden she started eatting again and got back up on her feet. First thing we thought was Lyme. But sometimes they just stop eatting. My bulldog will do it every now-n- then about being picky.

I had to quit feeding outlaw cus two of my dogs wouldn't eat enough of it. One would just eat a little bit and the other just completely quit. Switched feed and they're fat and happy.
