I have a litter of pups and I am trying to decide on a pup out of a litter. Should I choose the one that is roughest or not? The one I am looking at is the roughest but goes out and leaves crowd while on ground pitxlab mix pups.

I look for the one that kinda is off doing his own thing, with pit being bred into he/she it'll probably have enough roughness. Just my opinion.

I personally simply pick which ever one I like the most, for any number of reasons, pretty much which ever pup stands out the most to me is what I grab.

I choose all my puppys by if i stick my hand in there and one is ruff and will bite on my hand i pick the one tht bites me. All mine have turned out good but might just be Cause there out of good stock.

You could put up a picture of them and let me choose from 1- however many and keep my last pick. If I pick a pup it's usually the dud

Lol that's how we picked our Lab. My wife walked to the pen stuck her finger in and he came thru all the pups and bit her. She looked at me and said i want him. he is now 12 and has been a good dog. I usually pick the one that my gut picks. Just the one that feels right. Shotgun Arkansas |

My best dog to date was picked out by my wife. Go Figure.. Its a crap shoot. I will pick the best looking pup in the litter or I like the runts also..

Shotgun Arkansas I picked my squirrel dog that way lived 9 months had her Doing good and my mom ran over her last Monday and had to put her down! I pick puppys out then a few months later end up getting rid of them because not liking the way they look when they grow bigger! |

I like a runt sometimes , most Ill sit around and watch see what kind of personality tey have usually take they one that pays attention to me majority of the the time but if its coming from a friend I just grab one lol they gonna work if they made right

some pups can be the most dominant in the litter and can be cowards in the woods when they grow up or loose baying won't put their mouth on a hog...I have seen more than a few times the pup that gets bullied or the one that stays away from the pecking order fights can be super rough or as game as a pit bull...
I spend time observing and testing pups and I make decisions based on my experience and what I see from them and gut feel...
normally I will keep more than 3-4 pups and they are my picks of the litter and cull down from there...

Don't set anything on fire in Texas as dry as it is here liable to burn whole state down, lol Just pick the one that you lke the best ( looks, personalit, etc. ) no way to tell with pups but if you like it from the beginnnig that always helps. I usually pick middle of the road one.

Spend time with them and you will usually see one or two that stand out to you. might not stand out to anyone else but will to you.

if I am buying a pup and don't have much time to look and analyze then it is a crap shoot but I will give it my best shot...I will not pick the biggest unless I see something I really like in him...I try to pick the average sized pup in the litter...I like solid built pups that look good and act right...I don't care for shy dogs but I do know that lots of shy dogs make top hunting dogs...so if the pup isn't too shy I will overlook that...if the pup is bold and comes up to me and has that regal look about him and it is written all over him/her that says...I am my own dog and I don't need any help to get the job done look and attitude, then I just might pick that one...I like tight feet and powerful looking forearms on a pup...if the pup is above playing and goes off exploring that is a good sign...but the problem with only having 30 minutes to pick a pup is not long enough to analyze the litter...
and if I can't see the majority of the litter I won't waste my time looking...
and I have to like the pup or it won't do me or the pup much good...
picking a pup is a big deal to me...
