We have had nothing but trouble this year with parvo lost a total of 24 pups mixed variety and most were already spoken for. I lost 9 walker puppys to it my dad lost alot more to it to. The vet said it wasn't airborne but if we moved out kennels 100 yds and bleached them they should be fine. He said its a different strain of it not just like the orignal virus. It has a whole lot of different symptoms. Anyone have any problems with it this year?

I had the new strain hit... Out of 10 pups I lost two.... But the numbers are more in my favor because I medicated them literally every hour 24/7. For about a week... This new strain hits harder than the others and sure does go thru them faster too.

I built a pen off the groung just to raise pups in and when I don't have pups it serves as a ICU pen. And don't ever have any problems with parvo I've always been told to wait two weeks after taking gyp out of pen before first round of shots is given and I usually only give two rounds one about eight weeks old and the other about ten or twelve weeks and don't have any problems

We had it go through here. I shot a couple coyotes and brought them home on the flatbed. They were just there overnight but I had 8 die Anywhere from three months old to a year and a half. They didn't hardly last a day and they were dead.  That said the same thing a weird strain. Was just getting my dogs doing really good and it kinda set me back. Working to get back on track

different strains effect differently the strain we have kills them in 2 days. It was truly bad. 2,250 plus a 108 dollar vet bill to have them tested for parvo and internal parasites and it was just 1 pup. Humans can get parvo but its named different.

We have always have 7-1 at 6 weeks we lost a pup that came off my dads outlaw dog that wasnt even born here and he had his shots. This stuff is weird it doesn't have the same symptoms as the normal strain of parvo does.

Shoot...think I'd be bleaching, burning, and freezing, whatever it takes....everything around to get rid of that stuff.

Have your pups as far away from kennels as possible.

Thing is (after a little research) apparently it can stay in the dirt for years and a dog can carry the virus for a few weeks even after "cured".

I had to do some research on this and this is the best I found so far  .

The AVMA released a FAQ in April 2008 about a relatively new strain of parvovirus called canine parvovirus type 2c (CPV-2c). This strain causes the same gastrointestinal signs as the "regular" virus, canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2). These signs may include vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), loss of appetite, lethargy and dehydration.
What about parvovirus types 2a and 2b? They are also present, but do not differ enough from CPV-2 to void the protective effects of the parvo vaccination. The new strain of parvo, type 2c (CPV-2c), circumvents vaccine protection because the viral proteins of CPV-2c are just different enough that the body doesn't have antibodies built up to fight it off; as it does with the other strains of parvo. Because of this, some diagnostic tests for parvo may not pick up on the new CPV-2c variant either.

This new strain of parvo is transmitted the same way as the old parvo; by dog-to-dog contact, and the risk is higher for dogs kept in close quarters, such as a kennel. Treatment is supportive, including fluid and eletrolyte replacement therapy, antibiotic support, and management of vomiting and diarrhea.

At this time, there is no vaccine for this new strain, but the currently available parvo vaccine may provide some protection, according to the AVMA research report. Dog owners are still strongly advised to vaccinate their dogs for parvo.

that is why I like the re-sorb products as a fluid therapy it contains glucose as well as vitamins and electrolites
