Are you boosting your bitches before they whelp?  You really shouldn't loose a pup that young unless the bitch wasn't vaccinated properly.  I'm talking 5 weeks old or less.

didnt on the ones we lost because this just hit us. We vaccinated my gabby gyp thats at the house im gunna give my walker dog two shots when she gets home from the stud dog. 2-4 weeks apart. Then shes not staying at the house due to wanting a pup out of her that bad. These will be some jam up hog dogs!

Shoot...think I'd be bleaching, burning, and freezing, whatever it takes....everything around to get rid of that stuff.

Have your pups as far away from kennels as possible.

Thing is (after a little research) apparently it can stay in the dirt for years and a dog can carry the virus for a few weeks even after "cured".
we have used bleach, ammonia and all that. Burned the blankets sick puppys were on and took the pups an Burryed on the back of our properties which is far off from the kennels. Weird thing is. A walker gyp had 4 male puppys thats all she had im hunting her for bobby barber of deridder,la. He didnt want the 4 pups which was really good bred he gave them to me and told me to sale them and keep the money. 2 puppys lived out of tht litter due to her jumping in her box on to them. They were born on the ground and not till the pup i was going to keep because my dad liked it died at 8 weeks after it had a shot. The two that lived sold them and there big healthy puppys.

Been a VT for quite a while. From what I understand, even the diiferent strain of parvo is still viral. That's why no matter what if a dog/pup came in Parvo + they'd be rushed straight to the closed in isolation ward, and only one tech was assigned to treatment, and that tech had to glove/gown up and step in a pan of bleach every time they went in/out. Parvo can live in an environment/soil for up to 8 years. Not trying to be morbid or offend anyone but I'd have burned/cremated them bodies, even though you did state that y'all buried them far away. Momm dogs get  a booster vax while preggers, and pups get their first vax here at 6wks. Our yard is closed, but even when close family comes over, we don't allow anyone to walk around or go foolin with our dogs/pups unless they sanitize their hands first, and we know they haven't been anywhere near dog parks, etc. Somethin as simple as someone walking through your yard or someone touching an infected dog unknowingly and then comin to your yard and foolin with your dogs can spread it. As for the symptoms, it always depends on the individual dog/pup. Some start exhibiting clinical signs gradually such as lethargy, vomiting, bloody foul smelling stool, etc.....whereas some get rushed into the clinic because they appeared "normal" and suddenly collapsed, or had a terrible sudden blowout of bloody watery stool. Sorry for the loss of y'alls pups.

24 puppies. That's 9 bulldogxmastiff cross that was already spoken for. 8 walker puppys. 3 mt curs that was gone. And 4 cur pups. These were not all born at the same time. All these but the walker puppys were already given away waiting in weining. It was 2,250 in walker puppys plus a 108 vet bill on my walker puppy. Only one survived.

I had a bout with coccidiosis in my last litter so did Kenny and Elton with their pups. Are you sure some of it wasn't that?

mr whitten, this re-sorb you speak of. is it for cattle and you cut the dosage down or they have it for canine too?

my bluetick pup I just brought hm didn't eat much last night, and today hasn't drank much water, but been giving him fluid under his hide, dog food with pedi-lite in it and he seems to be holding it down as of now, but just plain water/dextrose fluid, he was throwing it up within 10-20min. I give him 2ml of pepto and he held it down for 20min and then the pedi-lite soaked dog food and its been 30min for that, but I only gave him 40ml of feed. he has had around 100ml of dextrose/water under his skin today, urine out put is nil now, was putting out a good bit earlier today. last night he was acting normal, but about 10 today, its like something hit like a freight train and looks like a starved etheopian kid in the matter of 10hrs. goin to the vet first thing in the morning to test him and see if he will let me take the iv bags, tubing and sedative hm with me and try to keep him alive.

Sorry to hear that Mr. Charles, I really hope your pup recovers fast, and that it's not serious. Intestinal parsasites can do that to 'em too. Hopefully it's not parvo. Did you vaccinate him recently? As in, within a week? Let your vet know if you did, because if they run the parvo snap test, and they have been vaccinated that recently with the modified live virus, the test CAN show a false positive.....

Naw, no vaccine and i talked to the mobile vet i use close to hm and he ask the same thinf, but also said that since he is now having bloody discharge, there is a good chance it will give a false positive too, and the vet im at now said the same thing, even if it aint parvo, it'll show that it is. They guy i got him from says all the other pups from that litter are normal and same with the 1s that went to louisianna this wkend, normal, but i do know it takes 7-10 days for the gestation period and i aint had him a full wk yet and none of my othr unvaccinated (no booster shot) dogs r showing symptoms, but i did let him run around in a parking lot where i met the guys wifes to get him. He could have gotten it from there or really anywhere. Either way, he has notified the other folks and is gonna keep an eye on his dogs. He has appologized several times, but it aint his fault, even if it came from his yard, its still just part of it and my responcibilty now

sorry Charles I just checked out this post . the re-sorb I just mix as directed  mix the two pouches together in enough water and inject under the skin until it bulges up and redo when it is absorbed usually three times a day is enough . the vitamins and electrolites in the solution really help out when a pup is not eating and gets dehydrated  .  good luck on your pup and yes it is the scouring calf product .

sorry for your trouble with your bluetick and hope all goes well , if not holla at me or kevin and we'll hook you up in the future   lol  but I have pulled some pups from beyond the grave with the re-sorb and amoxicillin or smz-tmp if I have it on hand  . again good luck  .

Usually if they get parvo at this age it goes directly to their brain. Its very rare but is said to happen.

Well that's good news, the negative parvo test. I forgot about the pork thing....did he injest any of the pork? I've seen grown dogs get GI upset from ingesting pork. That's possibly what caused it! Him bein so young and all. I hope he pulls through with the IV fluids and the oral meds....I bet he will! Sending many positive vibes your way.  Smiley
