I was given a 7 month old lab today I was wondering has many people had success making hog dogs out of them?

I had one crossed with pit, made a good solid short range RCD. But pure lab, i dont know, i just cant picture it in my mind  |

There once was a lab that dominated the catch competitions in southern Mississippii. This was before my time, but I did see a picture of a flyer somewhere with his pic on it.

It was a yell. lab & as soon as he caught, he could be called off. He won a lot of the quick catches.

I don't see why not thay have a nose to find birds in tail grass only down fall I can see is the Under coat thay have mite get hot

Someone has posted pics of their golden retriever strike dog before. Said it does a jam up job. The under coat should do just as much to keep it cool as it does to keep it warm, shouldn't be an issue as long as its been acclimated to the heat.

If labs find bombs, drugs, and buried bodies then I don't see why they can't find hogs if trained right

I believe there are certain breeds that are better at certain things. Maybe labs are not overall the best breed for hog hunting, but that doesn't mean that one dog in a breed cannot be good or exceptional at something. I believe there are some labs out there that may make a great hog dog. Doesn't mean your dog will or will not make it; you'll just have to try it and see.

Had a yellow lab for a strike dog he was jam up could hold a hog better then
Most dogs but after u caught the first hog he was done intell u loaded up and went to another place

Theres always that sorry ass apple on here who tries to be a smarta$$ in the group. I have plenty of fking videos on these dogs on REAL HUNTS and ill be more than glad to post them to satisfy your bchn needs. As a matter of fact we will invite on a trip at no cost just so you can see for yourself since aparently WE ARENT REALLY HUNTING. Will be more than glad for you to come along. Well showed my pup a pig yesterday and he hates it. He bayed the mess out of it and then caught. But hey the pig probably only weighs 15lbs

Can't say for all labs but the one I've hunted with was 50 yard dog at the most. She did stay some what busy but always could be found in a water hole. She would bay and try to get a little salty till she got bumpedd and that was it she was done for the rest of the day. There sure could be some good ones out there. But at the end of the day they were not bred to be large game dogs or bred to have high prey drive. There a retriever. To many other breeds of dogs to try on.
