In Texas you have to have license to by home a/c stuff. But the fan motor on the outside part needs to be replaced. I can hear the bearings are going out. The a/c fan was blowing inside but not cool air. My wife went out and the outside part was not doing anything she could see so she turn the a/c off. When I got home tonight all I did was turn it on and it worked. Because I can hear the motor I am betting that it is the problem. My question is can I go buy the motor or do I need a license?

I wouldnt think just the outside motor would require an a/c license. U mite try to find a motor elsewhere with the same power supply requirements and output arbor diameter.

Off the subject though, but did did end up gettin a plasma cutter and tig machine?

I am ordering a new MIG and a spool gun for aluminum next week that is cheap for what I am getting. I would like a plasma but I should hold off until I have a real need for it. I figure I can make some stuff and sell it to earn the money for a better MIG and a nice plasma intead of getting a cheap plasma. I will practice aluminum and then make some boxes to put up for sale. A MIG and a decent cut off tool should be all I need to make some nice boxes. Plus I like to weld so it will be fun. I may try my hand at making a dog/hog trailer for myself too. If it is good enough maybe someone will buy it. I would love to make enough to quit the job I hate so much.

Where are you located ? Am an HVAC tech you should be able to buy any part you need other then freon ( need an EPA certification to buy that ) at any parts house a condenser fan motor is am EZ fix if you can pull the top off the unit and grab the shaft and it has play in it you can tell of the bearings are bad ... You can usually see where the oil had dripped down on the fan it will be a really dirt spot around the hub of the fan blade

any electrical supply store, possibly tractor supply, home depot or even lowes should have a motor. I know tsc has motors, but not sure of the rpm and arbor size, but most electrical supply store carry motors. write all the info down or take a pic of the info and call around to the stores

Can I go buy the whole outside unit minus the freon? Where can I get the best price. I can fix anything. I know the motor out there is easy. I have opened it to clean it and to replace wires my dogs ate.
