I went out solo this morning with my dog Gator and my pup Blaze. The area I am hunting is flooded and the river is ripping!! I cut the dogs loose at 6am and hunt for about 20min and I have not seen the dogs, so I check the Garmin and they are 620yds away towards the river. I start jogging in their direction and when I get to the river I check the Garmin again and it shows them treed 350yds on the other side of the river!! Great! Not really looking to swim across the ripping river, but I got to get to the dogs. I take my backpack off and hang it in a tree because I have my phone and GoPro and forgot to put them in their waterproof cases. Luckily I always carry a waterproof camera! Mark the pack in the tree with the Garmin and jump into the raging river. The current takes me about 100yds down river before I pop out on the other side. Check the Garmin and now I am over 400yds away from the dogs. I moter towards them and when I get about 70yds from them I can here a good fight and grunting going on!!

Get to the dogs and they have a nice healthy young boar caught out. Throw the hog and tell the dogs caught hog! Gator pulls out and Blaze keeps harrassing the hog so I have to give him a smack and tell him caught hog!! He steps back, gives me a look, throws his head in the air and pulls out the way Gator went.

Thats is when I realize I have no hobbles or mule tape with me, its all in my backpack!! GD!!!! I snap a picture of the hog and then drag him over to a tree and prop him up against it and take off towards the dogs. The Garmin is showing them .72mi out and back on the other side of the river. Back in the river I go, pop out on the otherside and check my Garmin. The dogs are looping around back to e so I just relax alittle and wait to see what they do. After about a 1/2hr they comeback to me. I am soaked and have had enough swimming time for the day so I start going to find my backpack. Get to my pack and we head on out.

I am really pleased in my pups progress for a puppy that turns 8mo old tomorrow. He is gritty as hell, has a good nose, lots of drive, and is already 60lbs of legs and muscle!!

Thanks Judge. So far he is what I was hoping for when I did the cross with my Fancy gyp and Zipper. Medium range, rough, and athletic!!

Sounds like one heck of a workout, and it sounds like you have a heck of a pup too!!! Sounds like he is going to be big and rough, just the way they should be. Smiley

Rednose, not everyone likes them big and rough, by I sure do!!! Evil

LT, do not mind the swim during the day, but when your solo and it's dark it adds to the Pucker Factor!! Lol....

I second that TazD! When the weather permits and you have some time post up a pic of that pup.
