I got a call from the Watertreatment Plant here in my county Sunday, and they asked if I would come out and catch a hog that was in one of their over flow ponds at the plant. The pond was about 2-2.5acreas and it is lined with a thick black tarp. The bottom of the pond is about 4" thick with slippery algea and they drained the water down to about 10-12". Between the algea and the wet tarp it was like running out on to a ice hockey rink in sneakers!!
Got to the plant at about 6:30, brought Gator and Clyde. Met the Supervisor and a couple of his men and went over to the pond. The banks are about 30' and its a pretty good size pond. I get on top of the bank and see the hog all the way on the other side and it does not look like the 150lb boar they said he was. More like 110lbs and a sow. She does have nice color so she is up for the relocation program!! Lol Go back to my truck and the dogs are already smelling the hog with the wind blowing right to us and are ready to go.
Drive to the other end of the pond and leash up the dogs. They are ready to go since they already smelled the hog. Head over to the pond as the dogs are trying to pull me in the opposite direction. Get to the top of the bank and look over the side and the hog smelled us and ran back over to the side we were just at!! Decided to just go down the side and turn the dogs loose and skating my way towards the hog till they see it since were up wind. My Gator dog is freaking out falling all over himself and acting like a idiot. Bulldog is doing fine so a leave Gator to figure it out and turn Clyde lose
Clyde spots the hog and the race is on, then Gator see it. Clyde was handling the slippery conditions good and eventually Gator got his legs under him as well. They chased the hog half way across the pond before they caught him. My buddy was not doing that good on the Black Ice!! LOL
