I spent the better part of this past weekend helping my neighbors erect their barn frame. Mandi is taking pictures of the progress, and once the barn is completed, we will have a photo album made for them. Here are some photos from this past weekend. The ground floor is going to be used to stall a few horses, and have a tack and feed room. The second floor will be a 40 x 80 dance hall air conditioned, with a bar. ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Total area under roof is 56 x 80. The first floor has a height of 9',just enough to run a tractor down the aisle. Peak of the barn is 27', the framing is 4x4 square tube, blasted, primed and painted. At this point my neighbor figures he has 200 man hours in the barn...with many more to come ![Smiley](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Here I am getting some tubing unloaded off the trailer that will be used later in the project. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0372.jpg) Welding up the framework. The barn was fabricated at my neighbors fab shop, then hauled in sections to the barn site. Once at the site, we lined up the three pieces that make each section, and welded them together. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0368.jpg) ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0376.jpg) Once the sections were assembled, we used the cherry picker to lift them and set them on the piers. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0384.jpg) It took a little convincing on a few of the anchor bolts, but nothing a 5# sledge could not straighten out. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0412.jpg) Once each section was bolted to the piers, we then welded in a 4x4x20' horizontal brace between each section, tying them together. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0448.jpg) Here we are 80% finished with the main section of the barn ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0479.jpg) This is the main section set in place, it still needs 10 more 4x4x20 pieces welded in between each section before the c-purlins are attached. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0537.jpg) If you look to the left of the barn, you will see the 16' section being added to the west side. This will be open tractor storage. ![](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/Garcia%20Barn/DSC_0556.jpg)

Chance, I started sweating when I walked out the door in the am, and I never stopped until I went inside after dark... Couple times I got real hot...got to thinking about Bryant's FIL that heat stroked last week, so I got a glass of cold water and took a 5 minute break in the shade. I figure when you can feel your pulse throbbing in your head is when it's time to slow down a bit ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Matt, The outriggers were used any time the boom was being used... The picker was in motion in one of those pictures, is the only reason they were up. I used the picker a few times, but I sure don't like it much. Give me a tractor, skid steer, dozer, or backhoe and I can make things happen. That picker had me nervous.

It's already in the works to have Kevin Fowler or Roger Creager booked for the first barn party once it's completed. It is going to be a real process getting it done, but we were all pretty impressed with the progress made this weekend.
Cheers! M

Matt,
They will be working on it each evening and weekend until it is completed. He expects to have all the framing and purlin installed by first of next week. The following week the R panel will be installed. Beige with a green roof and trim. The front porch ( 20 x 40 ) as well as the center aisle will be flagstone. It's going to be a pretty nice barn for sure.

Nosights, I forgot to mention that in addition to the barn raising, Mandi and I installed new overhead lights on our round pen, pulled out a 50' section of wood/ cattle panel fencing, and then installed a 50' pipe and panel fence, and built and installed a 6' gate made of 1" tubing and 4x4 panels yesterday morning ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Midway through the job I ran out of oxygen, so I cranked the machine to about 300 amps and cut my saddles with a 1/8" rod

I know nothing about construction, but Mandi is taking some great pictures! Shooting in the bright sun like that is not easy, plus she's catching some great moments. Technique + eye = photographic win ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

I will get some new pics up soon. This past week has been spent welding out all the steel that we tacked in place. Tomorrow the perlins will be installed, and by the end of this weekend the barn should have all the r panel and trim installed. Julie, It sure is nice having a decent camera around, but I find myself wanting a little more out of Mandi's camera. I found a lens that we want, but then saw that it cost more than my first new vehicle ![Shocked](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) Do you ever run a multiplier to get more zoom, or does the quality suffer? I was talking to a guy about getting pictures further out, and he said he uses a 1.6 magnification. Sounds like a better deal than buying a new lens, but only if it works... lightningh, They want to get Kevin Fowler...I told them if they can't get him scheduled, they really ought to go see this guy. http://www.lonestarmusic.com/artists.asp?id=1510He puts on a great show, and is very entertaining. One of my favorite "concerts" ever, just behind seeing Chris Ledoux in a very small venue.
