Today around 7 am I shot the biggest buck I've seen a true trophy big body wide eight pointer. The only thing is I hit him in the gut. He walked over a little fell down then around thirty min later got back up and walked away so I let in bleed out  for awhile .so after about two hours went to go get it. I found it about eighty yards away looking at me so I shot it again . It got up walked off slowly so I keep my distace but I lost sight of him in the thick brush.I found his blood trail followed it for like two hundred yards then lost blood trail. I looked the rest of the day but nothing guess I got to wait for the buzzards to show me where his at. Such a great morning with all the deer today just ended up on a lost I guess it happens

Start where you found the last blood and start walking in circles getting a little farther out with each circle. You will usually find more blood or the deer. I've found a lot of deer that way. Hope you find it.

I agree, take the circle approach, with a gut shot he could run a good ways without bleeding everywhere. I have found a deer that I gut shotted about 1000 yards from where I shot him, I wouldn't give up  just yet

A gut shot deer with Archery equipment can live  24 hours or more unless an artery is hit. I don't recommend looking for one for over 20 hours. He will just keep getting up and going. They generally will lay until jumped. Once jumped they may go for miles. The blood vessels inside an animals guts are small leaving very little blood trail. Most of the bleeding is done internally. Generally speaking they will head toward water. My family and I have been big into archery for many generations. With several European titles along with my son winning 6 state titles in the last two years. Trust me I have seen it all.
Good luck with your find.

P.S. Where are you located

x2 on the circle method, but like boone823 said, gut shot archery can go for a long ways with out leaving blood. I gut 1 in ks, didn't know it, but by the time I climbed down after I seen her lay down (5min) and walk to get my arrow, n ck the shaft for frozen blood, (found guts instead) I give her another 45min while I went back to my tck, fired it up, warmed up some, drove to the other side of the draw and set another 30min before bearing the sub temps, (driving up she must have heard me, took off again) I got out, found the first lay down spot and it looked like a Friday the 13th murder site, trailed a hundred yds, found another laydown murder site, 50yds, another site. she laid down 3 more times, I covered almost 1000yds and the blood stopped flowing and I nvr found her. red on white snow is easy to follow, but when it aint leaking no more, u cant find what aint there. it is gut wrenching to shoot any harvesting animal and then not be able to find it, especially if ur into horns n that's what u lost. look on the bright side, u wont have to eat horn soup from this 1. I never could find enough meat on the horns to fill my belly with food.  Grin
