i just wanna know what everyones opinions are on 270's and 243's which one would you rather shoot? which one would you prefer to deer hunt with?

270 forsure I really like the round!! But depends on if I was getting the wife or kid a gun I would get a 243. Other than that 270!!

I grew up on a .223 and .243 and nvr had to track a deer. Shoot them high in the neck closer to the head and u can walk up and put ur foot on them. Iv also had a .270, loved it for cavity damage and longer range shots compaired to the .243. Its shooters prefrence

Personal prefrance. I've killed all my deer with a .243. I'm sore sure more accurate with a .243. Out of 7 deer hunters I hav on my place 2 use a .270 the others use a .243

Choice between those....270
Long shots or short shots? I grew up with the lever action 30-30....100 yards or less (typical stand/still hunt/stalk distance) it's deadly. Ideal for walking.
270 is used by....shoot... Millions? Hundreds of thousands anyway. GREAT for deer size game but if I'm paying for a guided Elk/Ram/Bear hunt...I don't chance it....that's just me. I go any of the long range .30 caliber
243 will do a fine job on deer size game....just chose the right bullet and watch your shot placement.

Have shot a 270 since 1984. Won't knock the 243 either. What I like about the 270 is the varity I can load it. Several years back I loaded some 100 grain bullets with low velocity powder. Love it here in central Texas. Load 130 grain and max the powder and go any where for the big animals.

243 has kille lots of deer so has he 270 I will keep my 270 it will do more for me. I've been using a bullbarrell 22-250 that my late uncle and cousin built for me killed some nice deer with it.

25-06 is very nice...I shoot a 7 mag and my 4 brothers shoot 7 mags...
but between 243 or 270 I will have to go with the 270...

Its all in what YOU have the most confidence in. If you flinch with a .270, but can drill tacks with a .243, then the .270 is not much good to you. All this talk about this bullet or that bullet:'(  Sure some are better than others, but shot placement is always key. I would have to agree on the confidence thing, and been privy to a many a deer dropped in their tracks with a .22lr. scrabble the brain with a shot in the bur of the ear, and they will drop like a 100lb sack of taters. |

Perfect shot...hit a rib or shoulder blade on that rascal and he runs away And thats why u drill the neck. The high velocity shocks the spinal cord, disrupting the nervous system flow, blows out the wind pipe and arteries. Even with my 270 and 308, if i have an extra sec to line up on the neck, i put the round there. |

Between the 2 original guns I would go with the 270.
My personal preference inbetween those calibers I would have went with a 25-06.
To me that is the best all round caliber for most folks.
