Tonight my hubby and I had such a great hunt together. There is nothing like getting to hunt with the man of my dreams and our pack of dogs that both of us have put so much blood, sweat and tears into.
We started off the afternoon hitting a hot spot with some younger dogs and some of our more trusty dogs. My girl Roxy, found a group and bayed up by herself 700 yards away from us. None of the other dogs we had with us could pick up what she was working, so we started trying to ease our way on over to Roxy. We jumped a group of hogs on the way there where Rooster, Rowdy and LC picked them up instantly and they all split up. Roxy heard them bay and catch so she dropped what she had working like it was hot to come help out. We ended up with these two! Wish we could've made it all the way to Roxy, but I'm durn happy she came to help shut these two down. It's been a looooong road with her, and she continues to improve- she's such a hard working dog.
On the way out, Jared and I decided to night vision. We aaalmost made it out of the ranch and found a big ol black spot with a few other pigs a 100 yards away or so. We thought for sure it was a monster boar and we talked about our game plan. We knew most likely our dogs would pick off the smaller hogs, so we decided to stalk this big ol pig!! The dogs started barking so I had to run back to the truck and shut them all up while my handsome fella put the smack down on MISS Piggy! She is now hanging from a tree in our back yard. Can’t wait to see what these backstraps are going to look like!! … and taste like! Ain’t teeth on these hogs to really brag about, but damn these are the best type of hunts.
