which one would rather own and or hunt with?? me personally, im a bmc kinda guy but i dont mind a good catahoula, i just wanted to hear everyone elses thoughts on them. ive hunted behind both and i love both breeds but most of the BMCs ive hunted behind just look better than a catahoula while baying but i have seen quite a few catahoulas that will blow the other BMCs out of the water, what are you guys' thoughts?

The one that produces pork!! This subject has been talked to death on hear and nothing constructive ever comes from it. You say you like both breeds. Good for you, So do I. I also like Plotts and all the crosses that folks hunt. But most people tend to bad mouth any breed that they are not hunting. Like I said nothing constructive ever comes from this subject. One thing for certain, there is good and $hitty dogs in every breed.

I prefer ybmc's.....the reason being that i found a line that fit me and my hunting style to a tee, the dogs (as a line) have a very high turnout rate, they start early and they start at 100mph and get better with age.
Had i found plotts or cats or walkers or poodles that did what i want a dog to do in the woods then i would be hunting with em now. I have absolutely nothing against other breeds, i just like a yella dog!

That's the way I was about Catahoulas when I first started hunting Justin. Only had 1 Catahoula early on that didn't suite me, was a registered dog....piece of crap.
Back then I Actually HATED Yella dogs. I had only been around a few...mainly bay pen dogs and they were freakin psycho. Put a bad taste in my mouth.
Got out...got back in. Again I got Catahoulas or Catahoula crosses (halfbreeds stock). Loved them. Hunted behind a couple Yella dogs a few times back then....wasn't impressed.
Got out...got back in. Back to halfbreeds stock and again loved the dog I had but she got stolen. Picked up a sister pair of Catahoula crossed pups and a month later my Jasper dog (Yella). He wasn't out of hog dogs but I took a chance and I'm happy, happy, happy where I'm at now and working towards the future.
Just goes to show you how much dogs can differ within a breed.

Hmmmmmm gonna have to think about this question long and hard before rendering an educated decision .....OK ...that's about all the time I need!  All I can say brotha is when you find a Catahoula blowing Yeller Dogs out of the water on hunting........time to blow them Yeller dogs out of the water and get another YELLER DOG ! Lol.  |

Haha! SOOOOOO biased! No one said anything about blowing anything out of the water, but you obviously hadn't hunted behind good Catahoulas or you'd at least acknowledge them Or maybe it's just good natured razzing....lol. |

Iam a catahoula guy there blood runs deep in my yard and my dads yard and was in my grandads yard,in this country we hunt ,ive never seen a ybc out do a catahoula.now in texas were we hunt from time to time,ive seen some ybc that i would bring home,to every man his own,if they do wat you wont them to do then breed dosent matter.

I don't think that it is necessarily about the breed. It is more about the line of dogs and the genetics involved. Every breed has culls and good ones. The best thing to do is to find a line of dogs that works for you. JMO

Aces and culls in both breeds, as for all breeds.....whatever coat color that finds and bays/stops a hog is the color for me  I cannot fairly pass judgement on an entire breed just because I've seen one or two poor examples. They're dogs not machines, therefore there will be the good and the bad, no matter the breed. I think there;s folks out there that are so programed with the notion that X breed is for this, and Y breed is for that. It's one thing to have a preference, but it gets a lil over kill when people condemn an entire breed seemingly due to the simple fact that it's a breed they choose not to hunt. *My opinion is a generalized assessment, not directed at any one person or group in particular* |

hmmm... jagds, heideterrier, airdale, plots, julys hound..lol I don't think that it is necessarily about the breed. It is more about the line of dogs and the genetics involved. Every breed has culls and good ones. The best thing to do is to find a line of dogs that works for you. JMO
Nailed it! x2 you got it if the hunt is there in the breed then its really nice and easy to start them and watch them trust there nose! |

some folks will cull a long range dog and others will cull a short range dog...
